I am running stock 5speed against an automatic mazda 3. from a stop would i be able to take him?

Depends on the motor. Didnt they come with an optional 2.3 with around 170hp? If so I think that would win, even being an auto.
if it has the 2.3 I'd be willing to bet he would take you...
my buddy has a mazda 3 with the 2.3 and it's quick...
a girl i work with has a 2.3 07 3, auto vs auto the Eco came out on top, only by a little bit
