Sad sad 2200 1/4 times
Sunday, August 17, 2008 1:57 PM
Well I finally ran my car at a track, because I wanted to find out how I could do in the 1/4 before I put on the turbo and tuned it.

It was my first time at the track, I was a little intimidated, and it showed. I know the car has more in it, I just need to get a few more runs in and learn how to launch better.

The times:

First run:

R/T: .776
60': 2.418
330': 7.151
1/8: 11.133
MPH: 62.02
1000': 14.550
1/4: 17.44
MPH: 77.64

Second Run:

R/T: .853
60': 2.340
330': 6.991
1/8: 10.916
MPH: 62.66
1000': 14.289
1/4: 17.158
MPH: 78.13

After the second run, one of the guys I was with suggested that I shorten up my intake (I have charge pipes run down to the intercooler and back up because Im turboing soon), and drop the fuel pressure a tad (I forget what the wideband was saying, but it was a little rich)

Then problems came, I missed 2nd 2 times, and then missed third, and ran this:

R/T: .749
60': 2.400
330': 7.344
1/8: 11.282
MPH: 62.93
1000': 14.612
1/4: 17.441
MPH: 78.32

Im not sure what to make of the numbers, I have run against some of the cars that were there in other places (middle of nowhere roads) and beat and tied them and they were all running better than I was. I know Im short a tune, but Id like to think some more runs and some practice will get the times down. Also there were 2 cars there that were running a bit slower than they normally do as well, so im sure the track conditions werent helping anything.

Just thought Id share, I know theyre slow times, but the car isnt done, and I apparently cant drive it yet... Im a bit embarrassed, but Im glad I went.

Having the intercooler connected will hurt your power (probably also why your wideband was so rich on a stock tune).

It had/has more power with the intake I had before the intercooler. (I swapped it out for now)

I am going again next week to see how I run, theyre not hosting an event at the track so Ill get more than 3 runs in and a lot more practice. Im also getting a tune this week.

Id like to think I can get into the mid/low 16's at least with the mods I have and a tune... we'll see

With what I have done to my 2200 (before suspension upgrades), I was able to get it down to a 16.5. And I only been to the track a few times. It will nice to see what you put down once you get use to launching it. I'm still trying to get my launches down.

Its amazing how different it is compared to being on the street.

I think my problem is with my fuel setup, currently it is larger injectors and an AFR, ajusted using a wideband and nothing else, I stripped the plug for the fuel pressure gauge somehow, so it isnt there.

Again im getting tuned this week sometime if all goes well, so the stock FPR goes back in and Ill do it the correct way and we'll see what I can get out of it.

Thats what I was hoping to hear, and what I figured all along. The car pulls harder than a stock 2200, and my brothers '00 auto isnt even close.

Its just my poor, poor drag ability. But i've never been before, and I can only get better

is my car a factory freak?...i have an '02 Sunfire SL. It has an air box mod and a "self-made" short shifter and i got it to run 16.8 with everything street trim....it is the 2200 OHV motor. From what i read, this car with this motor should run 17.2-17.3...

as far 'Matt Linke' goes, your reaction times show that you were a bit nervous. Leave earlier. You need to leave on the third yellow. You have 15 inches to roll between the second stage and red lighting so by the time you see green you should be moving. Either leave on the 3rd yellow, or in between the 2nd and 3rd yellow.
My best run in my car was as follows (only my third run...):

r/t: .183
60': 2.38
330': 6.988
1/8: 10.801
MPH: 65.04
1000': 14.070
1/4: 16.843
MPH: 81.95

Learn something new every day.

Hell yes I was nervous, Im going to try running on the 3rd yellow and see what happens next time I go out.

Thanks for the tip!

how do i get my name in the top 10 list for n/a 2200??

Looks like normal times for street tires and a 5spd 2200. 1/8th mile times are almost dead on with mine.

Im getting better I ran a 16.5@80.xx MPH

I have the slip in the car. I spun through 1st and my r/t was .552.

I think the car has more, Im working on getting a set of drag radials.

Thats a pretty good time for a 2200.

BTW the reaction time doesn't affect your ET. The ET timer doesn't start until you roll out of the 2nd stage line.

Hey guys. I'm not all sure wat my 2.2OHV 5-speed runs on a 1/4 mile strip but last time the car was ran it was bone stock and we only have 1000 ft tracks nearby but its MPH it ran was 74... If any body could tell me about wat ET that would be at 1000ft and if it sounds normal for a stock 2.2 5speed.

Well that takes a bit of pressure off. I was thinking it was working against me.

The 60' was 2.4xx. I hit a 2.3xx on a slower run a few weeks back, so hooking up in 1st should help me a bit.

Im going to get it tuned by Skunk again with the 2.4 s/c tune (modified for the 2200 of course) and run it n/a 1 more time before I boost it, I think itll help out a bit if we can dial it in, right now it runs a bit rich in 3rd and 4th to leaning it out some should help a tad. I'd really love to hit low 16's or high 15's, but I dont know if that will happen or not, we'll see.

I"m down to 16.01 with my cavie i'm running the 2.2 with full exhaust and intake with cut down shifter,205/50/15's thats all i have
about 800 into the whole car and me and my dad did everything are selfs. When i went to the track i launched the car around 3k
and got the best out of it i would spin a little but just enough to keep the RPM'S up to keep it from boging

good luck

Indeed. But from what I can see most of it is my terrible dragging ability.

With work I will have to wait untill next season to get some better runs in.
