Need tips for the track.
Thursday, November 13, 2008 10:56 PM
Well im going too the track on fri or sat,and im wondering what would make my 1/8 times a little faster without spending money.I was wondering if I should lower the psi in my front tires for better trac(I have street tires),and I had bad wheel hop issues the first time I went. What could fix that. And is it worth taking my spare tire out and other misc things? Thanks.Im hoping too at least hit a 10.2.I put the injen intake on and gutted the cat(Didn't have this when I last ran a best time of a 10.4)And I had a full trunk of car wash stuff and the spare.

empty the trunk
remove the spare tire and jack
remove any other misc. junk in the car

what size are your front tires?

you can air them down slightly. diameter of the wheel will effect how low you can safely go.
another good trick is to air UP the rear wheels. if max pressure is 44psi put em at 50psi. It makes them overly round and decreases rolling resistance.

to get rid of wheel hop you gotta put poly mounts for the upper, lower engine mounts and the fore and aft trans mounts.. only way to get rid of it completely.

Wheel hop: Launch a little higher
Wheel spin: Launch lower

That's how I was taught. Neither is good but at least with wheel spin your moving and your not putting nasty, bouncy stresses on everything. Wheel hop does nothing but break @!#$!

Better mounts will help for sure though.

I already have TTR upper and lower motor mounts, and prothane trans mounts. And it still has bad wheel hop,I have the prothane lower control arm bushing's but have not installed them yet.front tires are p205-55/r16's.

Get better shoes for the car then LOL.

What are you launching at? Try a higher and lower RPM for the launch and check the results.

As said to get rid of wheel hop try launching at a different RPM. Lowering your tire pressure (in the front) can help. Usually on street tires I do not go below 25psi.

In the past I have never been able to launch higher than 1700 RPMs on street tires.

I similar mods, minus all the mounts, but have a cat-back.

I was able to get a 9.6 in the 1/8 on the factory 15's....front tire pressure at 30psi....launching at 2000-2500RPM.

Practice makes perfect my friend...get back out there and keep trying

its a waste. you dont need to use 93 octane unles you have boost, running N20, or have a higher compression engine

I'm dealing with some signifigant wheel spin but I launch my 5spd at around 3000 and it gets out of the hole like a bat outta hell! 60' is 2.2 on the runs I broke the 15 sec mark.

(Edit of previous post because I am too cheap to pay for Prem)

My 1/8 times on those runs were 10.173 and 10.201, and both the 1/4 times were exactly 15.932

all motor, I was launching at 5400rpm and usually hit 1.9 60' and was hitting into low 14s, trapping 95-97mph

shifting around 7200, and riding out 3rd gear till the beams usually around 7700 or so.

well all i have to say is i run 15.1 with very few mods. Launching at around 2500 rpms from a slight roll. <<<PRACTICE Tires barely spin and i put down a pathetic 2.3 60'. But at the same time, i put down a 9.7 1/8th. R/T was .078. I do not like launching harder cuz i always get slower times. 15.1 for a nearly stock eco aint bad!!!

R/T....079
60'.....2.347
330'...6.424
1/8.....9.798@74.20
1000.12.700
1/4.....15.166@91.63
