I know bench racing is the devil, but...
Friday, January 23, 2009 4:15 AM
Do I have a 14 second car? It is a 1SV eco cav 5-speed. I'll be running 15" steelies with street tires. Is it possible to pull a 14.99 or better with this set up?

Engine:

RKsport upper engine mount
RKsport lower dogbone
TTR transmission mounts
2.5" magnaflow high-flow cat
2.5" CTI cat-back
2.5" dynomax super turbo muffler
RK Sport intake
RSM 62mm TB
LSJ pacesetter 4-1 header
18" Flo-Pro resonator
2.4 LE5 intake manifold swap
30lb/hr injectors
AEM UEGO wideband oxygen sensor
HPtuned by me to 7k rpm and 13:1 AFR at WOT

I'm running it to 7k rpm for now based on the CED dyno; i may go a little more or less depending on the shape of the power curve on the dyno when i get there.
Be nice! I'm just excited to have it tuned and running strong - first thing in spring its getting put to the test

You better get that thing in the 14's with those mods ! LOL

I would of went 14.8-9 with my mods if it wasn't for having to sandbag (stupid bracket racing..lol)

Best timeslip in sig.

stock 1sv is a low 15 second car

with your mods, you should get into mid 14s easily.

just remember to air down those fronts and air up the rears.. really helps for traction. I'm gonna call it now.. and say your trap speed is going to be 94-95mph

Hehe thats sweet. I'll honestly be quite happy with 14.99@ ~90mph. My goal was a 14-sec car, but it sounds like I have the car, just need the driver

Street tires are a part of my goal, but that's a deal! Honestly, my next step was cams (comp stage 1 would complment my build very well). If I couldn't get into the 14's then i would just have to end myself lol

It seems like my ability, not my car's, would be the only reason for 15's. I cannot WAIT for spring

Really 95mph? With those mods i only pull 92mph but then again mine is fully loaded ls sport.

I doubt it will on street tires. With drag radials sure.

I'm going to say doubt it...

Basically you're looking at a car with an intake, TB, header, exhaust, a tune and some engine mounts on street tires. My guess is 15.4@90mph Also keep in mind the stock cams probably won't make power past 6k

I'm basing this off my own experience. To get into the 14s on street tires it took me:

bored block .20 over, stock 10:1 compression
removed balance shafts
Patriot cnc ported head
Comp cams street/strip high rpm w/upgraded valvetrain
adj timing gears
intake,
header w/ full 2.5" exhaust
aluminum flywheel

I'm trying to include the items that would have increased power, not all the things I had done.. with all of that I managed to go 14.5 - 14.8 on street tires at around 98mph with a quaife diff.

Wish you luck, I just don't see 14s happening without some drag radials on that car.

I can't believe what I'm reading. Do people not remember when I swapped the skwirl to the eco?

way back then, the skwirl had:

mods:
-upper/lower mounts
-trans mounts
-rksport intake
-fidanza flywheel
-stage 3 clutch
-dual cat back

everything else was stock.
-stock manifold
-stock cat
-stock suspension
-stock tires (14" steelies)
-stock tune (HPT wasn't out yet)
-stock intake
-stock ignition
-stock head
-stock block
-stock interior
-stock injectors

I was running 14.90s @ 91mph.. practically no mods.. NO DRAG RADIALS.

the OP has more mods than I did plus a tune, and nobody thinks he can best 14s? What the hell is everyone smoking?

my ex gf had a black 1SV with an RKsport 4-2-1 header, 2.5" exhaust with a high flow cat (stock fly and clutch tho) she was running 14.8s.
When she had just an intake she hit 15.2

if you can drive, a base model eco is mid-low 15s STOCK.

LOL typical for ld9'ers to doubt 14's. You would be competely shocked if you saw my mods and my timeslips. On street tires i run low 15's with crappy homemade modifications. I don't even have a full exhaust yet!

Set of drag tires and I bet you could crack a 13 or close to it with that set up.

I'm stayin on street tires. I don't think this car as is could see 13's with any type tire. Who knows. With my relative newb-ism to drag racing, i'll be tickled with 14.99

Re: I know bench racing is the devil, but...

Ok, maybe 13 would be pushing it, but low 14's I wouldn't be surprised.

I'll be running a very similar set-up to you oldskool this summer except with a set of cheater slicks....so we will see how close I can get.

Now if it would just warm up!!!

I think the issue with people who are doubting 14's is the fact that they're probably only seeing "Eco + Mods", not the fact that it's a 1SV, which is a @!#$ load lighter than an LS Sport.

I missed the opening public day at maple grove last saturday - it wasn't on their schedule and i had my goddaughter's 4th bday party. I'll be calling to see if they are open this weekend

For what its worth, i just go back from some tuning/logging for a dead spot between 3000-4000 RPM, and its fixed with about a two degrees more advance I now have less than 0.7* KR across the board. She's as ready as she'll ever be.

However, eco heads at harry's in pennsburg pa are ~35$ Hmmmm

FYI if you want to get this ball rolling, Cecil is open already. One of these times we may venture out, my husband wants to take his TA now that we know it's healthy - can let you know when if you're interested.

I have seen an 04 loaded ls ecotec with just an intake and cutoff muffler run a 14.8. I didn't believe it but the guy can drive like no other. You can do mid 14's with good traction and launch

Sorry, my bad, it was a 14.93@ 93mph. Although the car was fairly new. under 1000 miles on it lol.
