As with most of these calculators, the more accurate the input, the more accurate the results. Although not dead on accurate, they can be used as a tool for estimating what you ET & MPH or HP could be. The more experience you have with the software and hands on experience with doing the real thing, the more helpful it will be to getting accurate results.
I've also found if you calculate your weight and the weight of your gas (6.6 lbs per gallon is what I've always used and have scaled dead on, i.e. 1/4 tank of gas or 3 gallons, plus gauge error/reserve of 1 to 2 gallons or a total of 33 lbs)
