First Look for JBO Members: Cavalier Drag Car for Sale
Monday, November 09, 2009 12:40 PM
Hi Everyone!

Before I take this auction public later this week, I wanted you good JBO folks to get the first look. If you have general questions about the car or the auction process, feel free to ask here. If, however, you are seriously interested in buying the car and wish to put in a bid (as per instructions on the webpage), then we'll provide further information via email (also as shown on the webpage).

Cavalier Drag Car Rolling Chassis

I really want to see this very beautiful car become a J-fan's pride and joy. Hopefully it will be one of you guys or gals!

Thanks! Yes, we had it on sale at RacingJunk.com for a bit, but the emphasis on that site is RWD cars, so it did not generate much interest. However, as we are auctioning it this time, it's going to sell, no matter what!

Thanks! I can let everyone in on this...the reserve is low. Ridiculous even. I'm going to take a hit on this one, but that's OK...better it generate some cash and get raced than just take up space any longer!

If a bidder wants, I can provide any pic desired. Yes, you are correct...there's little to see in the engine region save for white paint and a few more chrome-moly tubes.

What do you guys think...should I snap some more pics for the webpage? Come to think of it, more cage detail would be nice...it's really sweet tube work.

nice, but what price area are you targeting?
i know you said to shoot an offer but cage work like that is'nt cheap and niether is that body work.
cage and chassis has got be be ATLEAST 10grand, plus coatings and another 5-6grand of body mods.
should sell for 15k or so, IMO.

Oh Matt. You are the best!!! That would be so awesome! Actually, that's about what I have in it, but I've gotten OK with the fact that I will take a loss. So it goes with race stuff, lol...no matter what one spends to build, one always takes a hit at sale time.

Further, the limited appeal of FWD cars like this (if it were RWD, it would be gone in a heartbeat!) means I'll have a small group to draw from. Again, advantage: buyer.

A note I will also add to the webpage (we're going public today): As the suspension is all stock, It could still be easily converted to RWD, while still retaining the existing cage and all else. This was one option we considered, were we to keep it.

Since it's an unstated reserve and a silent auction, I can't really say where bids will all start and end, but it's going to be a bargain. Huge bargain!

OK, it's now up on the website, and we emailed our customers too.

I also added some more pics to the webpage.

Good Luck all!! I would really love to see this one stay in the J-body.org family

It's an Auction, with an unstated reserve. The price will be the highest bid that exceeds the reserve.

I shall take you up on it. I've done auctions with unstated reserves before with success, but this is a very unusual piece.
To entice some action, here's a reserve amount...I will give you guys here first shot at it before I publicly announce this reserve:

$3,000.

How's THAT for a bargain? Highest bid over three grand takes it home

Agreed! Keep in mind that this car is/was a work in progress, and we'd just not gotten to that part yet. It could be easily replaced with a sheet aluminum panel.
