Rpm's for different gears
Tuesday, April 06, 2010 12:53 PM
When I run 2nd gear in my 96 cavalier(circle dirt track racing) I can get to 6500 rpm pretty quick and hit the rev limiter but when I shift to 3rd the best I can get is 5500 rpm before the motor starts to cut out. Is this normal or is there something I can do to get 3rd gear to run up to maybe 6000.

Reason I know it cuts out at 5500 is I ran at a bigger track last year and ran 5500 then switched to smaller tires hoping to get to 6000 but thats when the engine started to cut out, so went back to the bigger tires.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Changed plugs from last year, took it out down the highway and had no problem getting it up over 5500 in 3rd.....so that could have been the problem??

Anyways, got it there, so problem solved(hopefully)
