water box

i searched this with no luck but I was wondering why you dont go through the water box at the track with radial tires? dont you want them warm?

You did not search well enough.

Street tires =water box bad. You just get your tires wet sticks in the tread tractions loss.

Slicks = water box good. No tread water burns off = warm stickicky tires.

There is other reasons im sure but thats the simple version. <br>

The water that is left in the tread of the tires will be tracked all the way to the starting line. If you race with rear wheel drive cars they will try to point out that your rear tires track water to the starting line also. Thats when you point out that their front tires track water also.

Yeah, that pretty much says it all up there.

The heat doesn't help street tires so all you're really doing is getting them wet, which is bad for obvious reasons.

I think the water is there just to help clean off the slicks as well, which is why some people will recommend a quick spin of the tires beside the water box, just to flick off any rocks and stuff that's on them. Just don't go trying to do a smoky burnout or people will think you're an idiot.

The water is there (if you have slicks) to allow you to heat the tires up. The water allows you to heat the tires without abusing the drive line of the vehicle. Dry burnouts are a bad idea if water is available. Slicks that haven't been heated up aren't much better than street tires. I see a BIG difference in traction when the slicks are hot. You will too.

If they keep a real small amount of water in the waterbox it shouldn't hurt you. The problem is when they flood it.

Drive around it if possible. that is what I did.

We have one track in my area(southwestern Indiana)that makes you go thru the water. Not sure what their line of thinking is.

The reason why they don't let radial tires through the water box is because they don't want water tracked down the track. I used to work at the track in my area and did the burnout boards and they told me to never let radial tires through the water box. They don't want any water on the track whatsoever.

What about drag radials?
Drag radials are made out of the same type of rubber as slicks. So they need to be warmed up in the water box?

If its worth doing its worth over doing.

They will allow drag radials to go through the water box cause they are kind of a slick but no street radials. I know its a stupid rule but I don't make them.

By me they wont let any tire with tread go in the water box.
Lots of people complain about it.

There's no point of going through with street tires...it has a negative effect on your launch. If there's no "room" to go around. Do your best to avoid the worst of it...and then give the hand brake a pull and dry those tires out.

i wouldnt say it has a negative effect
if you have been sitting there waiting and your tires cooled down
a burn out will warm them up again and give better traction

You don't need water to warm up your tires.

All you 5-Speed kids just need to rev it up and dump the clutch. If it isn't spinning long enough...crank up on the E-brake.

Waterbox is for ET streets & slicks. No need to roll through with your Yokohamas, or Toyo Proxis or whatever.

Anyways...Radial tires are designed to expell excess heat. You just wanna clean them off and heat them up a bit.
