A 9" tire will peek out from the fenders a bit, but the weld race lites have the correct back spacing so the tire won't come too close to the struts.

On N/A runs I hit the trap in the top of 3rd, say 7,000 RPM with the 24" Hooisers, but that's with a regular HO trans 3.6 ring and pinion.

If you have a W-41 3.94 ring and pinion, a 24.5 - 25" might be better suited, especially for launch to get the car out to the 60' clocks before the 1-2 gear change, and also not having to shift into 4th right before the stripe when running N/A.

On nitrous I'm into 4th easily by 1000'. That's shifting @ 7,100 with stock HO cams.

IMHO...Go with a 9" tire for sure, and pick the diameter based on you final drive ratio.

I'd say no more than 24" for a stock HO trans and at least 24.5" - 25" tire for a W-41 trans.

Karo, any opinions on my input to KQ4? I think you run a W-41 trans...

sorry to bring this one back from the dead, but i was using the search button.
im about to have a killer deal on a set of 26x8.5x14s, and i want to get them, but im worried about how they will fit, depending on the wheel i use. do you think i could fit this on a stock pontiac aluminum 14" wheel, with its normal backspacing, or would i have to spring for the weld wheel you have (or steel circle track equivilant)?

also, my car 87 sunbird is on stock suspension. do you think the 26" height would be too great to fit? i have nitrous and the 3.61 final drive, so im not too worried about my trap speed, but i dont want to buy the tires and wheels only to find they wont work together.

They'd fit fine at stock ride height with my Weld wheels, but with other wheels and/or offsets I can't say.

hmm. good info. i think im going to pass on it, cause on the 225/50/16s i have ot he sunbird now, i barely have room for my fingers over the top of the tire and the spring perch of the strut. i think i should go with a shorter tire, like a 24" and perhaps an 8" wide patch.

Hit Jake up on the size BFG DR's he's using.

They are close ot the same aspect ratio of your tires, but on 14" wheels, thus two inches smaller in diameter just by the smaller rim.

I think you'd be happy with the tire he's using on stock 14" J- body aluminum wheel.
