Help the newb beat a H22A
Monday, July 14, 2008 6:52 PM
Here is the deal brother in law has a JDM H22a Turbo. On the track down here it is a 1/8 not a full quarter...well my first time out and his 4th or 5th time he was running a best of 9.4 and I was running a best of 9.7 I am not convinced his car is faster then my cav I am just a more novice driver then him. Any tips on how to whip this Honda head?

a turbo h22a is probly putting down 100 whp more then your car.. you have a lot of work ahead of you. he probably has traction issues

the JDM H22 has 200bhp stock...so if its turbo'ed then he has a lot more than that.

Toss in a set of blower cams and im assuming your running the GM reflash. Swap ECMs and get tuned with HPtuners.

Yep That is the way I see it. You are fighting a car with more HP and less weight and an engine that is at home in the high rpm's seen during drag racing.

I would stick with the gm reflash rather than trying to create a fake 2 bar tune. That would be a whole lot of time and money for a half ass tune that might net you more hp/tq.
The cams I would do though.

yes I only put out a 9.7

a. my first time out
b. I was having major traction issues in first and second gear

Better tires will help the traction issue. Try that, and if your times don't improve to your liking, go with the cams.

ive got a stock 97 prelude with H22a. it runs with gt's through 2nd 3rd and 4th. you dont have a chance if its turbo even if it has a bad tune. my 90Z24 with a 3.1 couldnt take a gt.

Actually i ran fender to fender with a Dodge Magnum with hemi, through 3rd and 4th gear, they did have a car full though

also depends on if you start from a roll or from a stop.

1. Pay me $20 and i will beat him in 2nd gear and let off and still run 8 sec
1a. Na i just beat him for nothin
2. Tell him its "just an all motor cavalier"
2a. Dont tell him who i am though

Chad

1. My stock 04 cavy (yes i have 2 - 04 cavys) with some 205 50 15 drag radials can run 9.8s
2. Launch @ 3500 and Shift @ 6000 should work w the drag radials

Chris

1. i have nearly 200whp and i went 13.5s @ 102 all day
2. just waiting for my parts from Japan to go 12s
3. I still have to perfect the "bird catcher" project
4. Pour some Nitromethane in the oil, that might help

Im out for now

Ben, you get into the 12s yet?

Re: Help the newb beat a H22A

ive had a few issues, car broke the drivers side axle again, and the clutch is slipping between gears.

solution
1. recieved all NEW clutch and flywheel w new clutch pucks too
2. have spare stock axles that are going in
3. dont launch at 6000 rpms
3a J/K on the 6k launches
4. wait for cooler weather
5. - bad news - i start my second job in a few weeks

thats about it, if not 12.99 then would be happy w a 13.20 run @ maybe 106 mph

i will make a post of final results oct/nov and have next years wish list too

I have a friend that runs high 10's w/ a turbo h22 in a hatch, not sure on the exact specs. I do know 11:1 comp pistons and 22psi though.
