Hey, i'm not sure if this is the right area to ask a couple questions but here goes..The first is about keyless entry/alarm. I helped my buddy buy a used 2000 Z24 from a chevy dealership. It's fully loaded except the up-level RDS CD stereo. I have all years brochures for cavs and assured him that this car would have an alarm system. Well, it doesn't arm when you lock with the factory remote. I went back to the dealer and he dismissed me saying that it was not an option...even tho i brought him the brochure showing him that it was included with keyless entry. I even showed him the owners manual which states that you have a content theft system if you have keyless entry. He just blew me off. Is he right? Could the previous owner have de-programmed it? The other question is about passkey. I have a 95 cav and always assumed a was fairly well protected ( i use a club also) but there have been many newer impalas and aleros stolen recently in my area...wat gives, is gm's passkey useless? Sorry this is so long...Thanks for any help.

J-cars don't have Passkey, they have Passlock.
The dealer is an idiot... the remote is simply unprogrammed... (or the wrong one for the car). If it were reflashed, it would work fine. Go back and kick him in the nuts.

when you lock the doors with the remote dos the theft light on the dash start to flash after about 30 seconds ????
if not check your fuses
cause it should flash , once its flashing the alarm is on

No, the theft light does not flash when remotely locked. the light does come on when started, so i know it works. A lady i work with has the same year cav LS with keyless and it works the way u mentioned...it does a slow flash to indicate that the system is armed. checked fuse...its fine. i'll have to look into getting the remote "reflashed" like john lenko suggested. Thanks for the help.
last i checked autozone and GM both can reflash your remotes.
Press lock button twice? That's what I had to do with my 2k1 Z when I had the factory keyless.
ive got a 2000 ls sedan , and after i hit the lock button once , after 30 sec it starts flashing
hitting the button twice honks the horn , to make it sound more like a alram
unless there is something wrong with the bcm , it might not have been added to your bcm when it was programed
try holding both unlock and lock button for 7 seconds while standing by the car. this is how you reprogram it on my Grand am. it's worth a shot!
