If i hit a dog I'd probally pull off to the side, get it out of the road and call the humain society.
Now I'm not as tenderhearted as you... A few times I have crossed 2 lanes of traffic and drove on the sholder of the highway just to get at a snake... I've also ran over a jack rabbit. Wouldn't have stoped, but the G/F freaked... all we found was a tuff of fir near my skid marks and some blood on a tire sidewall. I've had a road runner race me, then "try" to cut me off... it lost... I've lost count how many pidgens I've killed because they would not get out of the way when i'm trying to leave a parking lot. I've also have had one bounce off my headlight when i was doing 75 on the freeway... seeing a cloud of feathers in my rear view was kinda funny though...
None the less man, I don't know how you deal with greif, but know that the accident probally happened fast enough that the dog felt no pain, so it did not suffer. Pray for forgiveness, talk to someone, do what ever. But keep your chin up, and keep on marching.
I'm pretty bad about that
I hit a quail once out on a country road doing about 45. poor thing was killed on impact. so I pulled over and put it on the side of the road and said a few words. basically I apologized. and I went on my way. I thought about it for days.

the only thing i hit was a raccoon at about 95 km almost 60 mph i felt bad and it was on my way to work so i saw it for a few days before it was taken away but a dog is different i think i would be upset if i hit a dog tho all that happened to my car was the fog light blew and i broke the plastic under the bumper i still felt bad
view it as you didnt kill the dog, the dog committed doggie suicide.... was tired of alpo

i avoided one, went into the f*cking ditch, and got $2400 damage to my car...
ITS NOT WORTH IT, dogs can be replaced...

that is sad. I feel you, even on my street i even slow down for the sauirrels in out neighborhood.
