If it was just a dented 1/4 you'd be fine, but they wont attempt to fix it if the unibody is all out of wack. I would be its totalled, even if it doesnt look that bad. Cavys dont often get through accidents and still come back.

Are you @!#$ kiding me. Shut your @!#$ mouth if you don't know what your talking about.

Your car isn't totaled. My 02 was way worse then that and they fixed it and sent me on my way. The unibody can be pulled back out easily and there is a piece back there that can just be unbolted and replaced. Just wait and see don't listen to stupid @!#$ on here that jsut say yeah its totaled casue my 97 was with less damage. The insurance company will fix it since its not really that bad so to say.

Did you not see this picture.

What you don't see is what totals the car unfortanetly. Under that bumper the back panel is destroyed. So is the trunk floor and the frame rail. Yes the unibody car has a frame rail. It is welded onto the car. That needs to be replaced because from the looks of it, it is bent beyond repair. Meaning it is kinked to the point that it will be no good if it were to be in another accident.

Hey dip @!#$ do you think I don't realize aobut the frame rails and the unibody. Mine WAS WORSE I wish I still had a pic of it but yeah im done argueing wiht stupid @!#$ idiots on this site. But hey if you want to depress him with saying its totaled when you have no @!#$ clue then go right ahead.

ok step one
chill the @!#$ out. youve been spittin out curse words for no reason since your first post
relax, its just the internet, my god, no one made fun of your mother or anything

step two
in your instance, it looks like it was just pushed in
it may be the pic, but in this case, it looks like it was pushed in and down, and it looks like the roof may have been streched down via the c-pilar. but again, it may be just the pic

step three
we wait to see what his insurance company does, because ultimately its their opinion on what they wil pay to get done

Step one
yeah sorry sailors mouth it jsut slips out sometime wihtout me noticing it. I do appligize for that one.

Step two
My instance was worse if I had a pic of the underbody you would see. But trust me mine was way worse then his. THey had to cut my entire trunk well out replace that, replace the quater panel, rear window, side window, door hinges, trunk lid, trunk hinges, rear bumper and all supports, pull the franme replace the welded and bolted frame sections, replace my entire exhaust up to the block, and I think thats about it. Mine was pushed up and in pices dont really do justice to the damage that was done to mine.

step three
totally agree but i will be totally shocked if they do total a car with that low of miles and not really that much to replace.

Well i dunno if ur going by that the car is slanted.. but he is also on a donut.. so if im not mistakin the other side has a rim on it not a donut.. so prolly atleast half of that slant is prolly in just having the donut on it.. So it may not be AS bad as ur thinkin as well..

Having the car at your house good luck getting a adjuster there quickly.. when i totaled my first cav i told them the car would be at my house once i pick it up from the tower tomma and they said 2-3weeks.. then i was like well nevermind then ill just leave it at the tower's then.. cant have the car sitting here that long.."Oh, We'll have a guy at the wreckers Monday"
So since they were paying the fees for it to sit in there they work alot faster lol

Also the main thing is based on ur insurance.. it being such a new, low mileage car.. they may fix it. but u also gotta understand.. if they can total it they can sell it for some good money as well being new car low miles.. Plus if the adjuster is just flat out lazy he'll call it total so he doesnt have to "waste" his time.. But u might get lucky like i did.. the car was totaled but i got almost $800 back in reinbursment for small things added and new maintenace parts all becuz i saved teh receipts and most the stuff wasnt a month old.. But like mentioned above about having the donut on one side and rim on the other.. that may hurt u.. so if i were u if u can put a 16" rim on that side as well all around so a accurate measurement can be made of the "slant"

Good luck with it tho man

If they don't total it its because of the low miles on the car.

If they do total it, after you get what insurance will give you I would try and get any additional from the guy that didn't realize there was another pedal for stopping.

All stop accidents are avoidable, just follow at the proper distance and always look ahead. No excuse for stuff like that. Hope it works out man.

man i didn't want to start a flame war over my wrecked car guys, but yea im kinda thinking form everyones said it's gonna be 100% up to the guys insurance company if there gonna fix my car or just total it, so who knows. Im trying to get a hold of the insurance comapny now but there being a pain in the ass, so it's like why do i pay you guys all this money again???

Manta Z is right i am on the spare because the rear quarter pannel and bumper were shoved into my 17's when it first happend. So i put the spare on so i could get it home. So it's leaning a little because of that but there is sitll that subframe damage im worried about.

welp....cavi freak was correct

the guy said it was all fixable and everything that was messed up he could replace, he estimating 5,600 bucks in damage so if the car wasnt so new it would of been totaled easy.

97cavy22: man thats great to hear....just dont cheap out on getting that quarter panel fixed, i had a quarter panel fixed on my 87 cavalier, and it looked great at first ,but after a couple years the bondo started to crack back., but in your case youll probably get a new quarter. it should look as good as new once fixed.

well i went to the body shop today, the guy at the body shop didn't agree with the estimates and things, so the insurance company re-evaluated the car and i think there totaling it after all, im not 100% shure yet but that's the latest, they didn't fix anything on it yet.

Re: I guess i should of put it in storage early...
Saturday, October 14, 2006 10:59 AM
So what the latest. This is why you should never go off of an adjusters estimate. He is not a body man. LOL they are always off.
You should buy that car back and get your self some crappy white 2.2 and swap everything over from this car to that one.

Re: I guess i should of put it in storage early...

If you know anyone with a body shop i would have gotten an estimate to see how it compares to the insurance company because sometimes those insurance people go by a book.

That's how it works. Your body shop is supposed to make an estimate also.
They all use some type of estimating software. The only differance is that an
adjuster has maybe done one year of body work and has no idea on what it
takes to fix a car. The body shop on the other hand will know what it takes to
fix a car and how long it will take. They also use a type of estimating software.
Normally the labor times on the different softwares are the same. The differance is
that the insurance company sometimes does not know what procedures you have
to do to fix a car so they don't put it in. I have had estimates in the shop that have been
3,000 dollars off of the shops estimate. Sometimes more.

Hopefully the body shop can negotiate with the insurance company and get your car
back to you but I don't think it will happen. Sorry bro.
