This, along with the massive negative camber. I don't get that at all. Whats the point of squeezing in such a wide wheel and tire then running it so only 1/3 of the tire is actually on the ground?

It started in European countries. Laws stated that tread must stay within the fender wells. So people started stretching tires and then setting negative cambers. This pushing the tread back into the fender well while still being able to run an aggressive offset on their rims and an aggressive rim in general. Then as usual a trend started and it became a big craze all over with everything and people taking it to the extreme and therefore became a fad.

So yes....originally it did start for a purpose. How much it was originally done I have no idea.
