My bro-inlaw is looking at a 99 honda civic si. He was asking me the ins and outs and pros and cons.
I'm not well versed in these cars. Can any of you help with any info....thanks
The one he is looking at is all stock never modded with 60k miles.

I'd buy it just for the fact that its barely been driven.

Great cars for what they are. Reliability is off the charts.

Reliable cars with decent gas mileage. Big aftermarket support if he wants to mod. Go for it.

wow that is an amazing find. not only because its got low mileage but mainly because its UN-MODDED! id say drop everything and snag it immediately before its gone!

I owned one for a short time as a temp daily drive. It was a 2000 with 67k miles. Honestly it wasn't impressive. It had ECU issues but was past the TSB period to have it fixed for free.

It got lousy mileage for a 1.6 - 28-29mpg highway. I blame the gearing - taching 3500 at highway speed. And it really was not that fast. It's a decent average car, but people suck it's d!ck way too much.

In those years there wasn't much differences between a Civic Si and a Civic Se like 15 hp and that's it. The Si has close-to-rape insurance rates. Here in Canada, usually you can insure an Audi A4 cheaper than an Civic Si. lol

Hahaha, seriously? In 99-00 the difference between the EX and Si Civic's were much more than 15hp, more like 55hp, the engines were completely different creatures. d16's in the EX models and b16's in the Si models, transmission was completely different, suspension, interior. True, the Si really wasn't anything special, but compared to an EX/LX Civic of that time, you were definitely getting a lot with the Si.

Okay....I understand what is going on.

Here in Canada we had the bare bone civic dx and cx, se had a nicer interior and hubcaps, the Civic Si was a bit different 127 hp Vtec engine and we also had the Civic SiR wich was like 160 hp and different upgrades.

But I swear that the Civic Si was so expensive to insure I saved like 450$ a year on insurance when I bought my 2003 Golf GTi VR6 instead. lol

It is still a eco car unless a boosted k20 is dropped in it. BUUUT once again.... the aftermarket support is vast and the parts to make it quick ARE there... if your wallet is.

Out of couriosity, what kind of dude is your brother in law? Will he be modding it?

Good reliable cars, like everyone said aftermarket support is insane. Not only that, but even if he isn't into modding parts are cheap and many are interchangeable if he does need to repair something.

You don't have to have a K-series to make a honda fast. K's are the new craze and great motors, but the B's were doing big things for a long time. The new K series craze just made it that much cheaper to build a b-series.

The car is blue and my bro-inlaw is looking for something that is good on gas. Has no plans to mod it. Just needs a car
that will give him good mpg,fun to drive and is super reliable.

If he wants a car that is good on gas, swap the transmission out for a LS trans, i know it sounds stupid. But trans swaps are hella easy, and you can make a pretty penny on a b16 trans, they go around here for 550-600 for one with that many miles, and you can pick a LS trans up for about 250. and then still have the b16 but be at about 3500 at 80

Or just buy an ls 5th gear and have the best of both worlds. I wouldn't suggest killing what little power a b16 has.

I can deal with a clean SI. I have seen worse than that but not my cup of tea.
