Probably everything you heard is correct. The car is cheaply put together like a 90's Hyundai, But it costs me $208 a month that's car payment and insurance together so at least it'snot just built cheap it priced accordingly. LOL

I just want to pay off my student loans and get a house and then a weekend toy, and keep this as my daily driver. So having a cheap car is just fine for me. Still, I wish i had the boosted model.

I only pay 205 a month for mine but also pay 198 for insurance. lol.

198/mo for insurance?!?!? Damn dude you should probably not get tickets and you wouldn't be making a car payment worth of money each month for insurance.

E-yow! That's a tad steep. Yeah the turn offs for me was I wanted a new car so I wouldn't need to fix anything or pay for big repairs, so buying a used Cobalt SS that could have been ragged on by a kid it's whole life was not something I was willing to gamble on. And having to pay for premium fuel was not something I wanted to bother with right now, and the last part was the huge premium the SS - moniker tags on to the bottom line of your insurance.

Wow, two hundred bucks a month to insure a Cobalt. LOL

I insure a brand new Forte Koup, a 2003 Z24, my house and our dirt bikes for the same amount. Do you drive GTA style?

Haha what are you talking about?? I have only ever got 1 ticket in my life and it was for not having a up to date emissions. Dunno where you got that I have gotten all of these tickets.

And yes... I have heard that the Cobalt SS is on the same insurance bracket as the Z06 Vette. It has the same last letter or number or something. 198 was cheap, everywhere else wanted me to pay 400.

I am only 21 but have had my own insurance since I have been 17. So it's good that I have been with the same insurance company but I am still 21 and there is no way around that. haha.

Jooky- I understand. But I got a sick deal (7800 bones) and wanted something I actually would WANT to drive for 4 years. But I understand. These cars are mostly driven by younger people and really, why buy a quick car if you aren't going to play(on a track of course) every once in a while.

Out of curiosity you guys should go to progressive(my insurance company) and just do a quick application. (just don't put your correct phone number. It only take 1 minute.)

Progressive sucks. Your rates kind of prove that and don't make for good advertising for them. I'm through Titan Insurance (big in the Midwest) On my brand new 2010 car with full coverage no tickets I pay $82 a month with $500 deductible. They are awesome I've had them on all my cars but one, and really took good care of me and my car when someone hit me a few years back. I'd never go to Progressive.

Years ago I never had a need for credit, credit cards or anything like that, I tried to pay for everything in cash. My car I bought used for $3000 I saved up, and it ran like a champ. I was younger and was still living at home so my only payment i had was car insurance. I went to Progressive to see if they could get me lower rates since I never had any tickets or any accidents at the time. I was 25, just got a good job, just moved into my own place and was looking to save money so I thought Progressive could beat Geico and lower my bill. Turns out Progressive bases your rates on your credit score not your driving record so since at the time i really had no credit they labeled me a high risk driver and gave me this horrid rate that was LITERALLY $100's of dollars more a month than Geico.
I was like WTF?
they said yeah your, driving record is perfect, but your credit is horrid.
I said how can my credit be horrid, I don't have any and I just got an apartment, so it can't be that bad.
They said having new or no credit is as bad as having bad credit. I argued with this joker on the merits of what does credit matter if I'm a proven good driver? His excuses were all laughable at best. I left and went right over to the Titan office and they were $100's less than Geico so i took it and have been with them ever since. So Garret I hope you shopped around because you may be paying a sh*t ton more than you need to be. Even one bad mark on your credit will make your Progressive rate soar, regardless of your driving record.

If none of you knew this about Progressive, I hope I was able to shed some truth about their practices. My friend is a claims adjuster for them and we were talking last year and asked if they still do that stupid credit rating analysis for peoples insurance rates. he says yeah that's why he won't go with Progressive (the company he works for) Because in his nasty divorce his wife ruined their credit.

Dude, don't use age or anything as an excuse. I promise there are other young Cobalt SS owners out there. The only thing that would make it anywhere near the "same bracket" as a Z06 is because most Z06 owners are older and drive responsibly and most Cobalt SS owners are ex-SRT-4 owners and well we know how they drive. That's the only way it MIGHT even out. But no, $200/mo is NOT normal without tickets. That's where I got the idea. It's not normal at all. Check your insurance company on that one dude, you're getting raped if you actually do only have 1 insurance ticket.

The ticket I got doesn't affect my rate though. lol. And 203 was CHEAP. Progressive was the cheapest I could find and they wanted me to pay something like 380 at first. This is all with a $500 deductible too.

without any tickets that affect insurance, you're still getting raped man. Sorry, but something is up.

Plus how old is everyone here? Lol. Considerably older than me on average I would imagine.

I actually got an insurance agent with no particular company as their employer(not local though) when looking. Progressive was the cheapest I could find for my LD9 as well.

Well I just did an insurance claim through Progressive and it was crazy simple and smooth. And the claims agent is the one that hooked me up with a shop that paid for a rental car when I didn't have rental insurance on my plan. (For more info check my progress thread.)

Hate to keep this thread off topic, but you mentioned age.... The insurance on my mr2 only went down 18/mo when I turned that "magic insurance age" of 25. When I was 21(your age) I had a fully loaded mustang gt convertible with full coverage for 98/mo. Sorry but something is going on that u aren't telling people. Lots of claims, lots of tickets, something.

Jist for @!#$s and giggles called my ins. Company and got a quote on having nothing but 1 car, being a fully loaded 05 cobalt ss with a 500 deductible and the fullest coverage possible..... 135/mo. Even if you add 10 perfect which is what my rate dropped when I turned 25, it doesn't touch the nutso amount they're getting you for.

If it didn't raise your insurance, why did you mention it? if you caused it and your insurance company paid out, it DID raise it btw.

Re: Crazy Slowbalt

There is a lot of discussion going on about which insurance company is the best. I applied for at least 4 or 5 different insurance companies only caring about price(to be honest) and progressive was the cheapest. Period.

There has been two ppl(including me) who actually posted on here with Balt SS' and one (also) was raped and the other not. The other being raped is (also) younger than the one not being raped. (and with no added claims written)

Plus Jason I posted a ticket that did not go on my insurance knowing that It would not affect anything in the discussion to simply be honest.....?
