They're quite rare as well, I think the total production is in the single 1000's range.

It would make a fun field car!!!

In all seriousness, I think that was one of the weaker engines of it's day, and it's on a poor chassis, I personally wouldn't invest money into it, though it might be fun to rip around in for a bit...

In those days, those cars had Mitsubishi engines in them. It was during the whole Mitsu/Chrysler buddy program (read: where we got DSM from). So I wonder...... How easy would it be to swap out a 4g63? I know the older Hyundai Elantras that had Mitsu engines can do that swap real easy....... If it's possible, then hell yeah it'd be worth it. Talk about a sleeper.

It did not have a mitsu engine in it the 2.2 and 2.5 turbos were Chrysler products to begin with. back in the late 1980s 175 hp wasn't something to sneeze at those were some quick cars for their period. The engines have there problems, but they have sort of a cult following and are easy to make go fast, theirs a dude in NH running about 20 psi on the stock 2.2L Turbo II bottom end with close to 200,000 miles on it in a mid to late 80s Daytona. I would love to have one of those, it'd be a hell of a sleeper.

The CSX was built by Shelby and sold as a Shelby. Carrol Shelby would buy Dodge Shadows with the Turbo II and work his magic with them and then sell them as a Shelby. For more information check out turbododge.com

No kidding, it was the mid-80s. V8s only made 150hp.

Would you sereously, shadow or not, make a numbered shelby car into a field car?

Are you kidding? Those '89 "fiberide" wheels were VERY unique. These were constructed of a fiberglass-reinforced plastic which is stronger than aluminum and also lighter. Shelby's wheel plant made these wheels; embossed into one spoke is the word SHELBY (tough to read in the photo, but it's there). This wheel was the winner of the Society of Plastic Engineers Award for "most innovative use of plastics." This material is stronger yet lighter than a comparable aluminum wheel and is quite exotic for a production car.
175 horses in a 2500ish vehicle is pretty damn good. plus the lightweight wheels would mean a slightly less loss to the ground. Things to ponder
but the ground effects are so low they seem.....drivable?
paul the front half of the car is partially in a lil drainage gutter in front of the garage.
If you do something like that, I'd seriously have to drag you into the street and tie you behind a CSX as it runs the 1/4 mile.

Not really, but the CSX cars are awesome, even from today's viewpoint. You can easily tweak the ECM and swap out injectors, exhaust, wastegate, ect and be running low 13's for under $1500.

Thes 2 sites will explain all you would ever need to kow about the CSX.

Finally, At least some people know what they are talking about! I have been into Turbododges for years. I own an 86 Shelby Charger with 16K original miles. If the car you have looked at is Red it is a 1989 Shelby CSX. It started out as a Dodge Shadow and was sent to Shelby Automobiles to be converted to a CSX by Carrol Shelby. In 1989 they only made 500 of these cars. It should have a # plate on the dash. It had a 2.2 Turbo IV VNT turbo. The VNT means nearly no turbo lag. You punch it it goes. My son has an 89' # 150 I know what I am talking about. The 89' CSX was the only car ever to be equipped with Fiberide wheels. If you go to NADA guides.com you will find that a 1989 CSX in mint condition is worth bewteen 11 and $12,000 dollars. If the car still has the original front airdam that one part is nearly priceless! If I could find a low mileage mint condition 89 CSX I would dump my Cavy in an instant. The car is quickly becoming a collectors item. Matt earlier you said 175 HP was weak for a turbo. I guarantee you if you drove one of these cars you would quickly change your mind. If she will sell you the car BUY IT, BUY IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
exactly, i agree totally. Those dodge's are very quick for that their time. With just minor tuning they are easily into low 14's and high 13's. My dad has an 87 Turbo II daytona..........that thing f'ing flies/
If the computer is bad, don't worry. You can get a new Mopar Performance computer for less than a couple hundred dollars probably. A tweaked ECM is one of the best mods you can do to a turbo Dodge anyways.
There is a guy here in Cincinnati with an 85 Daytona TurboZ running mid 11s. Matt, if she gives you this car ? You are one lucky son of a gun!!!! What condition is the car in? Does it still have the front airdam? Check www forwardmotion.com for the ECU. When you get post some pics.
