s10 exhaust help
Tuesday, February 15, 2005 10:22 AM
I love my s-10 and therefor will never sell it. I had a custom full exhaust done. Everythings in stock locations except for where the pipe normally exits it just turns down after the axel. I love the sound but its not really loud enough for me. If I were to cut the pipe back about 1 foot or so before the axel how would it sound? I asked on s10forum and as much as i love that place to I never get the repsonses i get here on the org. Thanks

I use a 40 series single in/out
I dont want anything different. I love the sound. Its a loud deep grumle at idle and a nice blat on accell. But just a little louder would make me happy. I just wondered if i cut the pipe off shorter if it would ruin the sound or just make it louder...My roomate borrowed my truck and pulled out of our driveway and when he started it my windows were vibrating....but its not that loud..just really deep

if you want it to dump before your axle it will be boomier but not louder, in fact probably sounding more echoy and not as nice IMO

Get a high flow cat...and remove the resonator if there is one. Headers might help too.

I don't think cutting the pipe shorter would do much. Unless it was dramatically shorter. Like if you moved the muffler further forward and dumped the exhaust out the side, in front of the rear wheel...Nascar style.

Try a Magnaflow or a Spintek if the flowmaster isn't loud enough. What engine do you have, the 2.2 or 4.3L?

when I got my exhaust done, the guy that did it told me that it would be way louder before the axle... I wanted to exit dual exhaust (one on each side) but I didn't want to go too loud so I didn't do it. I Love my flowmaster that I have on now but I still have the stock exit pipe and it's not too loud but people still know its there...

so yeah, it will be louder before the axle but you will probably still have to do bigger pipes and or a high flow cat to get it really loud... honestly though, it may not sound too good with a 2.2L just cause its not that big of an engine so it just makes that loud obnoxious high pitch noise if its not done right... good luck with what you do though and I want to hear it if you do it! later

yeah the exhaust on my blazer cuts before the axle...it was cool at first but after about 2 months i hated it...it makes it louder inside the car...really a bad choice on my part

i have mine dumping right after the muffler and before the axle... I dont think it is gona make much of a difference in sound since your only changing the end of the pipe by a foot or two.

As for loudness... i dont think your going to get something that is much louder then a 40 series with a turn down! I have a turbo muffler on my truck, and it sounds to be the same as yours, not all that loud, but very deep... i love it. One way to make it louder would be to hollow out the cat.... but thats not wise for inspection purposes. Since you say your on s10forum, you reconize my screen name, and or the truck?
