Introducing: The Shoe (56k vomit)
Saturday, February 19, 2005 11:49 AM
...The Minivan, the Escape Pod, the Shuttle Craft or any of the other names that myself or others have made up for it since I started my "test drive" the beginning of the year. Originally, I was just going to sell it for a very good friend of mine. We both thought it would be easier to sell her here as opposed to NYC so he dropped the car off to my care after New Years.

I've finally decided that I'm going to buy it myself for daily driver duty after about two months of cleanup, maintenance and time spent returning it to stock. It's a damn fine car. It's practical, fun, good gas milage, comfortable and has just the right amount of pep to keep me interested on my daily treks to and from work.

Of course, pictures! Went out to document the decision to buy. Of course there were tagalongs as always, damn Nissans.

Incidentally, my 98 Sunfire will be going up for sale very soon as it has been replaced. I will be doing a similar photoshoot after getting her all cleaned up, ready for delivery to her next owner.

i never really liked that car. And now that you mention it it does look like a loafer, (i'm sure there are a lot of insulted shoes now). I would rather have the base RSX , same engine, but nicer body.
Why was it being returned to stock, what mods did it have? What did you pay for it?

The Sunfire's daily driver duty has reached end of life. I've rolled over 100k, @!#$ is starting to break on a regular basis and that's not what I'm all about. Unless I am hit by a Mack Truck, I'm sure the Si will go hundreds of thousands of miles before I replace it with another get-around and winter vehicle to compliment my hobby car.

I'm actually pretty surprised at all the negative comments. The car was not purchased so I can try to roll hard in my Shoe car, it's a beater, a getaround car. Showing it here served three purposes; one to say goodbye to this community because I will soon no longer own a j-body car and two to introduce what replaced my Sunfire and let it be known that I would be selling it. It's cool though, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

It is my opinion that STi's are pretty damn ugly themselves. They have a few redeeming qualities, though they are fairly quick and that you get the best of both worlds; You can carve through corners, whip some 1/4 mile ass and get around great in the snow, all while still having room for the car seats. It's unfortunate that the car has to be butt ass ugly doing it. Function over form is a good philosophy though, I'd prefer most people have this thinking over making their @!#$ look fast but have no f'ing go.

I was pretty much just saying it to make a joke man. I dunno, I just don't really like the looks of the car, and if you don't like the looks of the STi that's cool, I've found many who think it's ugly, Jay Leno included.

Personally if I was going to spend the money you might have spent, I would've gotten a little SRT-4. Again though dude, it's your car and your money, therefore it's your choice. Congrats on the car nevertheless, I know what it's like to be excited about buying a new car and I don't want to be the one to drag you down, by any means.

I got a killer deal on the car, paid a whopping 7k for an 02 with 24k on it. I guess that's what happens when you buy from a good friend who just wants to get rid of the thing. There isn't anything else on the planet that I could've picked up for the price that would've been a better selection for Daily Driving Goodness.

Fwiw, I think it's kinda goofy looking too. That's why I call it "The Shoe".

For that price, you couldn't have gotten a better car if you ask me. It may not look the best, but it'll last you a lot longer than Sunfire would ever have. I heard they handle really well stock also?

evryone is hating cause you got a car thats far superior to a jbody for less than most pay for a base cavalier. and actually has a resale value.

i dont know why your guys are hating, he just payed 7 grand for a car thats going to get him back and forth to work for another 200,000 miles. he's telling you he bought it as a commuter, to me that a good commuter, small for easy parking and gets good gas milage. you should all be so lucky, very few cars on this site will live to see that many miles, and the few that do will probably be rakety rust buckets by then.

WARNING: I bring nothing to the table.

It's all good man. I was stoked just for that reason though. I mean, hell, the kbb value on the car is still like 15g's and with me behind the maintenance, it will go back and forth for a very very long time.

It would be very different if I didn't have something to sink my teeth into, but I've got that plenty nailed down with my weekend car. She's like a high maintenance girlfriend, takes all my f'ing money and keeps wanting to go shopping for more stuff. She sure as hell puts out whenever needed though.

Dunno if anyone here is really interested in the Sunfire, I know most everyone prefers Cav's it seems, but I've just about got her all prepped up and ready to sell. I need to order some new tires for her and give all the fluids a flush and fill and we'll be ready to roll out. I'm honstly not sure what to ask for it.

98 GT with 110k, Decent Interior, Minor dings dents, Good paint, perfect maintenance. What do you think?

Whether you think the car looks good or not.. the pics themselves are awesome.. You could sell SI(R) 's with those pics..

I personally think SI(R)'s look good with a skirt package without them they look kinda funny but with them they look really good.
