From what I've heard and read....

Cobalt base, LT, LS, etc... out now. All have the 2.2L Ecotec. Sedans were first... a few months ago... coupes are finally reaching dealerships now... (I've seen a few driving around here now)

Cobalt SS S/C... coupe only... with 2.0L Supercharged Ecotec... not yet available.. but soon. Or so I've heard.

Cobalt SS (not supercharged))... sedan only... with 2.4L Ecotec motor... not til next year. Something to do with the motor.

I wonder how difficult Chevy is making it on the Cobalt to get the stock radio out and replace it with an aftermarket........is it going to be another "tear the entire dashboard out" type of thing?

who cares its a over hyped econobox anyway . I think gm made a car thats worse than the cavalier. its bigger but smaller inside, gets worse gas milage than the 2.2 cav, its slower, heavier, and more expensive. way to go gm!

and i forgot to say uglier. 25k for a high 14 sec econobox. you could buy a 05 mustang gt. i would over that anyday and i hate fords.

You forgot to mention the cobalt is built better than the cav, and though it's smaller inside, it won't hurt your back after longer trips due to a more comfortable ride.

People actually don't mid riding in a more premium compact and paying the price for such. Example VW. this is what GM is trying to do, not to beat the cav in speed, comfort, interior space, and price altogether. That would kind of be silly if you think about it. And before certain people spout off about better engineering, blah blah blah, just remember, the cobalt is alreadya hit with tuners. It's created quite a stir, and I am confident will wake up GM's chances in the tuner segment. They've gathered more interest in this car, than ever in the cav on such a short segment so far. People are actually considering this car for tuner projects, rather than doing it up because it was a car they could get for cheap. Before you knock the cobalt (or the ION for that matter), maybe you should see that it's not only meant to be more comfortable and "premium", but also, meant to stir up a response from the tuner crowd, which I think it's doing quite well so far. Relax, it's just an f'n car.

I think it looks pretty decent as the SS coupe. The normal coupes dont look as good though. I would deff buy one but it would either have to be red black or dark blue and maybe silver. Black would prolly look the best. I would get yellow but it's just way to attention drawing for cops to nail ya. But I am deff interested in one. I think it looks alot better than the ION Redline!

Close man. Actually the Cobalt SS (not supercharged) is Coupe only. The Sedan with the 2.4 liter Ecotec is called the Cobalt LTZ.

Ha, got me on that one... I don't even see the LTZ on GM's websites... First I've heard of it...

But right now, apparently... according to www.gmcanada.com and www.chevrolet.com, it's only:

base Coupe, LS Coupe, base Sedan, LS Sedan, LT Sedan all = 2.2L Ecotec
SS Supercharged Coupe = 2.0L S/C Ecotec

in both Canada and the USA...

I don't expect to see that 2.4L Ecotec motor until 2006 models.

Wow its pretty obvious that you are a complete moron. If you had any idea what you were talking about you would realize that the Cobalt is in a completely different class than the Cavalier in terms of refinement, quality, and features. Just because the J-body is a light-weight extremely cheap econobox does not make the Cobalt heavy, slow, or cheap.

Cobalt is a huge improvement over the J-body in just about every way - it has a much more rigid chassis, better build quality, much higher quality interior, and its actually competitive with the other cars in it's class.

The reason it weighs slightly more is because it has a stronger chassis that benefits both handling and crash worthiness - look at the J-bodies crash test ratings compared to the Cobalt, and you will see a huge difference. It has also not been proven whatsoever that the Cobalt is slower - a Cobalt 2.2 Coupe 5-speed runs a high 15 to low 16 sec 1/4 mile, which is about the same as a stock Cavalier 2.2 5-speed will run.

If you have nothing useful to contribute don't bother saying anything at all, because all you did was make yourself look like an ignorant dumbass.

That is not official and may be incorrect.

why did they use a 2.0 for the supercharged? why not supercharge a 2.2 like the other models? or the 3.4 they're supposedly putting out.

I was told that the SS supercharged is coming in mid to late april. There are 10 coming into the local GM dealearship and I'll be getting a call once the black one comes in.
