Anyone know anything about Tiburons?
Wednesday, March 09, 2005 2:23 PM
I'm looking into buying a new car and was considering the Tiburon GS-R (In the states I belive they refer to it as the GT with Sports 3 package) Either way, it's the fully loaded model with the 2.7L V6 and a 6 speed manual. I have read over some reviews for the car but most of them just talk about styling and how Hyundai has improved their build-quality and is trying to boost their reputation. Can anybody tell me anything about how the cars actualy handle, what they should cost, how they retain their value. Any impressions or gripes? Please let me know what you know. Thanks.

I came really close to buying a Tibby this past summer-- I took it for a test drive and loved the @!#$ out of it. Compared to a Cavalier it's a wet dream... However the numbers didn't come back in my favor and paying double what I pay now for a Hyundai just isn't justifiable, no matter how cute and "sporty" the car may be. I'am thankful I kept my wits about me and walked away that day, being that they're absolute @!#$ in the snow and where I live that just can't happen. I see your in Canada, so you might want to consider that. Suprising because they're fat pigs on the scale. Unfortunately that weight doesn't account for much in the snow unless you want to fill the hatch with sandbags because even with decent snow tires they fling off the road. BTW, I've seen this first hand and the driver is a friend of mine who I know is a good driver.

Thats really all I have to say about it. Just go out and drive one, that should answer most of your questions.

The front bumper of the new one looks like the GM 03+ Cavalier body kit, or atleast in my opinion do.

So I took the 2004 for a spin this morning. Good pick up and reasonably fast...but it didn't FEEL fast. My cavy feels like your doing the speed your doing. You feel the road, you hear the air and the speedo is big enough to read. I found the Tib had a little tiny speedo. It goes up real high but it's too small where it counts.
Sizzy's right about the price though. The dealer qouted me $399/mnth at 0.9% apr over 60 months. When I got there and he ran the numbers, it turned out that he couldn't give me 0.9, but 6.9 ! This drove the monthly payments up... with taxes and fees it's $586. or if you do the math, that turns this into a $35,000 even after he agreed to knock $5,000 off the sticker price. Is this right? Are these really $40,000 cars?

what?
you are getting raped with that price

Re: Anyone know anything about Tiburons?
Thursday, March 10, 2005 9:26 AM
oh and 6.9 is a ridiculous rate
dont ever go for that rate unless youll pay it off in like a year

Re: Anyone know anything about Tiburons?

No way! Try to get a loan from your bank or something, it would be a bit cheaper. I dont think a tiburon is worth 586 a month. That seems high though. But you are in Canada, so im not sure

586 a month is like luxury suv territory

DONT BUY A TIB!! @!#$TY ALL SEASON PERFORMANCE, CAN'T HANDLE POOR WEATHER, I HAD ONE FOR A MONTH AND LOST IT ON A SMALL ROAD BEND, THEY DO HOLD UP WELL IN COLLISIONS THOUGH!! NICE RIGHT OFF, PAID 13.5 CANADIAN FOR A 1 YEAR LEASE TRADE, GOT 15 BACK........ENOUGH TO BUY ANOTHER, BUT DIDN'T. I BELIEVE THE ENGINE IN MINE COMPARED TO THE Z SERIES CAV'S........NOT SURE THOUGH, SAVE THE MONEY, NOT WORTH IT......IT'S PRETTY, BUT CAN BE SUFFOCATING AS WELL, LITTLE LEG ROOM, BACK SEAT IS MADE FOR LITTLE PEOPLE!!! OVER 5'7 YOUR HEAD HITS THE ROOF.
@!#$, didn't realize i was yelling.........my bad

That is ridiculous! I'd walk away from that deal with my middle finger held high. No Hyundai is worth $40,000, @!#$ a brand new Cadillac STS starts at $41,220, who do these guys think they are? And I thought the deal they gave me was bad, psssh f-that.

BTW I was thinking US dollar when I wrote that ^^ but still, it's a @!#$ty deal.

I was kind of thinking the same thing. The dealer lied to me. I pretended that I knew jack about cars when I went in there. I asked him questions about the sunroof and the coulours it comes in. Good times. The guy wasn't getting a sale out of me no matter what price he gave. What I am thinking is taking his qoute around to other dealers and asking them to beat it.

Anybody know of any suggested alternative to the Tib that would offer simmilar "pep" and warranties in the same sot of ballpark price?

By the way, I'm keeping the cav for the bad weather. She handles great in the snow, no traction control, no four wheel ABS, no 4 wheel disck brakes, just me, the road and the cav.

maybe Celica?

not so sure about the warranty (that's hard to beat), but look into the Sentra SER or if you like the warranty look at the Suzuki Aerio. And to everyone that is complaining about the 6% interest - everyone's interest is different based on credit scores. Give the guy a break - maybe he hasn't built up much credit yet but this would be a great starter for the credit report. Better to have that and build a credit score than revolving credit on several cards.

actually lastnight i just picked up a 03 tibby GT... its sexy they are nice cars.. the gas mileage isnt bad actually i get better gas mileage in my tibby then i did in my eco cav. also they do sound hot as hell with a supercharger on them.

ya it doesnt feel like you're going fast in them which is good it means the car is stable taking it through corners almost no body roll and responsive steering. also mine has an exhaust on it so it does sound hot with an exhaust.

anyways ive got the fully optioned 03 model auto/trip tronic tranny better for boost =) but ya walked out with a 10% loan 16k sticker price put 1500 down knocking it to 14500 it was 20k out the door with 33k miles.. main reason it went up alot is i tacked on lojack a couple other theft coverages gap insurance and a 100k mile bumper to bumper warranty lol the theft coverage comes in handy if the car is not recovered i pretty much get 8k dollars from the coverages to go torwards a new car
