ok..this is my two cents....if i were you i would get a gs-r...its more of a car..meaning you can find one with leather.a/c..power everthing..and with the money left over..you'll be able to modifie it to your liking and it will be just as fast...the type-r also doesnt have sound reinforcements..like when you drive it its really loud inside...if you wanna know about how they drive..they drive very nicely..its pretty fast..like it runs 14.8 i think....but like i said before the money your gonna spend isnt worth it

can you put a B16 head on the GSR and get a poor mans type r anyways?

You'll never have a GSR handle like a Type R. The chassis is ran through the weld part of the factory twice. All of the structural subframe is double welded. The body itself should be alot tighter than a regular integra.

im not completely sure that is right correct...where exactly did you get your information from??

anyway, the part about handling you mentioned is absolutely correct, but its from a few different reasons....

(taken from team-integra.net)
One of the major chassis improvements to the Type R are the front and rear anti-roll bars (also called sway bars) located underneath the car. The front uses the same size 24mm sway bar as the GS-R, however on the Type R the bar is a ball-joint type which mounts to the car and gives the highest degree of rigidity. The rear raises the standard as a 22mm sway bar replaces the 14mm sway bar equipped on the GS-R. The larger rear sway bar allows for much less body roll and decreases understeer to a dramatic degree to give the Type R almost neutral handling.

1. Aluminum front strut tower bar. The bar has been made stiffer than the GS-R's strut tower bar in order to more tightly hold the unit-body chassis together and minimize chassis flex up front. The bar has also been given a polished silver finish complete with a "Type R" decal to enhance engine bay looks.

2. Larger upper pillars and a thicker roof rail have been added to increase safety in the event of a high speed collision resulting in a roll-over (this is a track car remember).

3. The rear wheelhouse and arch extension have been made thicker and stronger to increase overall stiffness in the rear and help reduce understeer.

4. Thicker rear damper gussets have been equipped to handle the increased coilover stiffness and sway bar size.

5. The rear lower arm bracket has been strengthened to meet the demands of the larger 22mm sway bar.

6. An aluminum tie bar has been fitted to the rear crossmember to better hold the unibody chassis together and minimize chassis-flex in the rear. It functions similar to the strut tower bar up front (1) only it connects the underside of the suspension together rather than the top. A rear strut tower bar is equipped on the JDM models however it was deleted for the U.S. model.

7. Another polished aluminum bar has been attached to the absolute rear of the chassis to aid in minimizing chassis flex in the rear.

nonetheless, ac was also a standard option in 2000 & 2001
it came standard with an LSD

(more team-integra.net information)
stock head comparisons have shown that they are about the same (b16 vs gsr).

if you port the b16 head and use an ITR IM with it then it flows better up top than the stock GSR head, stock GSR 2 stage IM. You'll lose 0.4:1 CR if you switch from a GSR head to a b16a head because of the larger head volume...so you may want to get a 2 layer head gasket to get that CR back.

the combustion chambers match on the b16a head to the gsr block as well...they are both 81 mm bore. The volume of the b16a chamber is larger that's all.

i guess one of the main things that someone worrys about more owning a ITR over a gsr is theft, however, it sure is an eye catcher to see a real ITR drive by...and yes, a 14.8 right on...but we shouldnt tell him if its worth it or not....

go ITR and spend the extra cash, they hold value better and they are a BLAST to drive. Only driven one and it was fun as @!#$.

if you get an ITR get a theft system of some sort...ITR are very popular for being stolen. Seems like theres a thread on some honda forums about an ITR getting stolen almost weekly. You can find them well under 20Gs too just so ya know.

My info could very well be false. I heard it when they first came out. An ASE mechanic told me it. I always assumed it was true, they are obviously superior on the course, so I thought there was somthing to thier rigidity. So I never questioned it.

Anyone find any info one way or the other?

Re: integra type r

From www.itrca.com(Integra Type R Club of America):

What sets the Type-R apart from any other Integra?

Engine/Drivetrain:

Revised high flow intake
Revised high flow exhaust
Polished and ported heads and ports
Molybdenum coated piston skirts
62mm throttle body
Lightweight valves
Lighter, stronger flywheel
Redline bumped up to 8400 RPM
Limited slip differential
Body/Chassis/Suspension:

Larger brakes (11.1 inch front, 10.2 inch rear)
Revised lighter ABS system
5 lug Hubs
15x6 Alloy wheels
Bridgestone RE-010 tires
New front air dam
Larger rear spoiler
Short throw transmission with shorter gears
Front shock tower bar
Two rear stabilizer bars
- There is really only one rear stabilizer bar.
The other bar, which was added for the ITR only,
is actually a lower suspension brace - it has no
dynamic suspension interaction other than to help
prevent chassis flex
Stiffened suspension
Little over a 1/2 inch (15mm) lower ride height
Faux Carbon Fiber instrument panel (Center Console in 2000/2001)
Deep bolstered, race-inspired seats
Subtraction of 147 lbs (No sunroof, A/C, sound deadening material)
Only offered in White until 2000 then Yellow and Black were also offered
No protective side moldings

I enjoy the Type R. Only car I would have sold my Cavalier for (and I did). Why do you want to get one? Any reason on wanting a 2001? For me, the GSR wasn't even an option, it's not like I wanted a Type R but might have had to settle for a GSR, I was getting the Type R or nothing. If you have to "decide" between the GSR and the Type R then the Type R might not be for you. Just depends on how bad you want the car I guess. I can tell you the exact moment I wanted a Type R and it had been my "dream" car ever since until I finally got one (about 4 or 5 years later). I was determined to buy one someday and I only wanted white, I refused to buy a yellow or black one. So, how bad do you want one? You should be able to get one for less than $20,000, but a 2001 will probably be close to that price.

^^ i want the car because i love the look of integras and i want a quicker car then my cavalier, and 195 hp stock sounds very nice to me. the only reason im considering between a gsr and type r is that ims o broke from my cavalier and im going to college this fall and im gonna need all the money i can for that. plus my dad thinks i need to be more finacially smart since for the past 2 years i dumped ALL my money into the cavalier

Re: integra type r

I always loved the look of the Integras too. I wanted an Integra originally when I bought my Cavalier but couldn't even afford an LS (didn't really know much about the Type R back then). Then I remember the exact moment I wanted a Type R but still couldn't afford it. So I just waited and waited not really saving for one, but knowing that if I ever came across one I would consider buying it. I had the Cavalier for 4 years and bought the Type R my sophomore year in college. If you check out my Cavalier and add up all the parts I put over $10,000 into it. One thing though, I don't have to pay for college, 75% scholarship and parents pay for the remaining $250+ and books so I'm very lucky there. I do work full time though and go to school 12 credit hours a semester. *shrugs* The Type R is one heck of a car though.

I love the Type R but theres no way i could deal with No AC or Sunroof! How do you do it!!!

Re: integra type r

my friend had a 2000 ITR phoenix yellow.... It had A/C im 100% positive it did. no sunroof though
Re: integra type r
Saturday, March 12, 2005 8:43 PM
They DIDN'T (past tense) come stock with A/C in 97. In 98 it was an option (which I have) and in 00 and 01 it was STANDARD. The only year that probably doesn't have A/C is a 97. Most people I know with 98's have it and it came with it in 00 and 01. Read up on the Type R and you'll know how "serious" they were when producing this car. A sunroof adds extra weight and gives the car more body flex which is definitely a no-no considering the handling they wanted this car to have. So they don't have sunroofs. Yes, I loved the championship white color also.
