Nice day out... Worked on the Supra...
Saturday, March 26, 2005 12:51 PM
well here's the first time I'm posting about it on the org....

this is my other car... a 1988 Toyota Supra turbo

I bought it off some kid for $700 with 70,000 orig miles on it (SWEET)

it runs but not very well.... the car needs some work....

it's also ugly as hell since it wasn't very well taken care of, but I've currently elected myself to bring this behemoth back from the dead and make it kick some major ass!

Again, the car is UGLY AS SIN

Think flat black with some nice gunmetal rims and huge meats in the rear.... something like this...

and of course, I'm going to be throwing on a T4 turbo with a nice SUS321 grade manifold from a reputable guy on ebay eventually...

there's a lot of other things to do first

I think I'll max out the stock CT-26 then when it breaks I'll replace it

Nice, Hey SUPRANICKS car, he has a 2JZGTE in there now. I would suggest staying away from the no name ebay "turbos" they suck literally, they tend to crack if pushed too hard.

yea my buddy just learned that lesson... bought a rebuilt T3 on ebay... yea the shaft has some mega play in it and the compressor turbine starting saying "hi" to the housing... luckily we caught it early

I'm gonna stick with the CT26 for the time being and rock a 3" downpipe with the 3" RS-R exhaust... prolly max out that turbo, then start worrying about upgrades...

I entered the raffle at Suprasport.com... stage 5 turbo hmmmm

mk3legend, you should enter man $5.00

i dunno if you have ur mk3 anymore tho....

dont paint it flat black
thats reserved for select old cars
i think its overdone as it is, there are just a lot of cars that shouldnt do flat black that do it
i dont think it would look good in flat black

^^^ Werd..

If you're going to get it done, do it right. All you're going to get with the Flat black is a few million dead brain cells and a ticket to mediocrity.

My GF's dad has a MkIII Supra and the only problem it's having right now is the head gasket problems that are fairly common with that model. 170 kms on the odometer. It's an auto, but that's no biggie, I'd be thrashing the hell out of the suspension, and rebuilding the engine in short order. I may however, buy an S13/S14 soon and go apesh!t on that. He wants to get a BMW 3 series or 8 Series soon (I say good luck on the 8).

well, it depends on what "right" is

I'm not looking for something terribly flashy... even tho thats an oxymoron since its a supra...

but the older supras tend to get overlooked because its not the huge-winged roundy mkIV

a nice shiny paint job isn't only expensive, it tends to get attention from johnny law... I figure if I keep it easy and understated, I'll just look like another POS and sort of blend in

..sort of

SCC painted their project STi flat black I thought it looked pretty nice.. its easy and cheap...

Hey I'm not the only one to pick one of those up. I got a 89 turbo for $500. Only problem is that the AFM is bad and they're not cheap. Unless someone has an extra laying around? I even just realized today that the seats have adjustable bolsters.
Is yours auto or 5 speed?

5 speed

targa top (makes it heavier, but its pretty cool)

what are the symptoms of a bad afm? my car can't idle if its life depended on it... I think its some vacuum lines and possibly a bad TPS or something along those lines... but I'm not positive

My car was hard to start and once it started wouldn't rev above 2800. Plus I believe the code was a 31 which means bad afm.

hmm mine idles high, but it surges

it idles (at the lowest) at 1500 then climbs to 2000-2500, then drops down and then climbs up again, etc etc

I'm in the process of replacing the main vacuum hoses and BOV hoses... I got most of it done, but apparently the BOV hoses are slightly larger so I have to buy more hose....

vacuum hoses suck

how much power does a stock 89 supra turbo put down about? what times do they run? i have seen a few of these in the paper for pretty cheap, i have thought about picking one up, but, i dont know. Would it beat a z-24 2.4 5-speed?
Re: Nice day out... Worked on the Supra...

Puts down 232HP to the FLY, about 180-200rwhp(if in good running order), about 210-220lbs/tq to the wheels.
They weigh in about +3,500lbs

Unreliable, Pain in the @ss to fix, always worrying about BHGs and Overheating.

If your tight on money I would suggest grabbing another car.

But if done and built right, very very enjoyable car, can see up to 500rwhp on stock block, up to 300rwhp and 400lbs/tq on stock CT26.

Most MK3s you see out there are in dire need of TLC. So they arent going to be performing at 100% potential.

Fastest recorded time for stock MK3 is 14.5sec. But usually +14.7sec.

mk3 legend is right

I bought my mkiii knowing it would need lots of work... but their low cost makes them easy to pick up, and the 7M-GTE isn't a great engine with good power output and decent strength to make for a very nice weekend car...

but dont buy one thinking its going to be a cake walk... expect to do some work to it, and be ready to spend $$ and time on the parts needed to make the car run right

this summer i just want to get the car running and on the street and do basic bolt ons... this winter I'm going to yank the 7M and fully build it and shoot for 500hp+ at the wheels with a Garret T4 turbo and AEM plug n play stand alone computer

it should be a hell of a ride.. I'll post more as I get the car running and modded...

Oh btw... I think my idle problem is related to the ISC (Idle Speed Control) valve... I need to either clean it or replace it ($330 part) so hopefully mine is salvagable
