Need some info for motor swap

Hey car gurus, I gots some questions that I hope someone can clarify.
The g/f's dad and I are looking to swap a new motor into his little project car, a Triumph Stag. Its a British car and only 500 or so are here in the states.
Anyways, the car right now has a ford ranger motor with a mustang transmission. We want something with a lil more power, but nothing major.
Our solution - 3800 supercharged v6.
Now here is the question: Does the transmission from a v6 camaro work with the 3800 motor?
I know the motor for the v6 camaro in 1998+ was a 3800 motor.
Can anyone shed some light on this?

Also, what are some good stand alone systems? We are probably gonna have to rewire the entire car, and it will be a major pain. I figure a stand alone system for the motor will cut some of that pain out of the way.

Thanks for any response.

or since you already have the mustang tranny you can put a mustang motor in it....

Wow that car will be pretty crazzy with a S/C 3800 under the hood. The tranny from the old camaro's will work. As far as stand alone goes you will want to get a DHP Powertuner, it's as close to a stand alone as your going to get. You can custom tune your own PCM and change and edit over 200 parameters in the stock computer.

i dont know much about triumphs, but are they rwd? if they are, watch out, the supercharger will put the trottle body right into the firewall, so watch for clearance issues

Andy

it's not how fast you go, it's how you get there that counts.
ZZP XP cam, 1.6 rockers, 105# springs, speedbuilt FWI, 3.3" modular pulley, TOG headers,

I would go with the easy solution on this . 5.0 V8 get rid of the fuel injection and swap a better intake and carbuerator on top . You already have a Ford tranny in there .

He doesn't want a v8. He wants something a lil better on gas mileage. I will talk to him about the v8. Supposedly a 350 swap has been done on it, but I don't see how they got it to fit. The engine bay is about as deep as ours is wide. That is why I think th 3800 S/C would fit nicely. We may have to move the radiator a bit forward, but thats it.

As far as clearance with the firewall, that was one of my concerns. I am going to have to make some measurements.
Raven, you may become my new friend in the coming months

The main issue with the wiring will be tearing out what he already did with the ranger and trying to do something with what is left. The car is from the 70s so it didn't have all the computers and stuff. I am thinking we may need to upgrade everything from gauges to sensors and all that.

I will keep you guys posted on how it all goes once we get started.

when Carrol Shelby first came up with Cobra he used a triumph as the base. He first put a Chevy Big Block in it, and Chevy turned him down, so he put the Ford engine in it. You can basically put anything you want in there. I know a guy with a Triumph that has a 454 in it, the car looks pretty much stock, besides the rear end, big ass tires on it, but they don't come out the sides they are like 3 inches apart in the middle.

Back in the 80's my uncle put a 3.8 buick in his Triumph. It was a tired motor. I don't really know why he decided to put it in there.

But in that little car, he couldn't keep the tires on the ground. That thing could MOVE! I would think a supercharged 3.8 would be overkill. I would just do a 3.8 and put a bunch of bolt ons on it.

if it already has a 2.3 in it , id keep the 2.3

but id move up to the SVO/turbo coupe 2.3 injected turbo motor , less work and alot more power and options
