The redesigned Jeep Wrangler debuting next year will retain an important styling characteristic: boxiness.

The reason? In Jeep's view, that design element is needed to retain Wrangler's primary buyers - men. It also will help differentiate the four-door Liberty from a similar-sized addition to the Wrangler line expected next year, a four-door model. All Wranglers now have two doors.

While not confirming the timing for the redesigned Wrangler or the four-door model, Joe Eberhardt, Chrysler group executive vice president of global sales and marketing, said the Liberty and Wrangler will continue to be styled and engineered for two different groups.

Eberhardt said last week at the New York auto show that the Wrangler "is extremely off-road capable and attracts a very different target audience today" from that of the Liberty. "It is much younger; it is much less family-oriented."

He said: "I think that will continue, if not even be further enhanced, with the new Wrangler."

Most Wrangler buyers are male. Most Liberty buyers are women, Eberhardt said. Women like "the Jeep brand imagery and attitude," he said, "and they want it in a more rounded, more modernistic type of vehicle. That would be Liberty and Grand Cherokee."

Eberhardt called the styling of the Wrangler and the 2006 Jeep Commander "a more classic, iconic design" that appeals to men. The tall, slab-sided 2006 Commander draws on styling cues last seen on the discontinued Jeep Cherokee. The Commander debuted Wednesday, March 23, at the New York auto show.

"Typically, things that are more boxy, more upright, seem to (attract) a younger, more male audience than things that are a little rounder," Eberhardt said. "So I think they are significantly different buyers today, and we certain intend to maintain that."

Big Diff ...
Porsche 911's and Lamborghinis AREN'T trucks. Straight
Cut trucks are manlier. Rounder trucks are built to seek
that oh-so lustrous soccer mom/ soft market.

To quote myself again "what else should a truck/hard
SUV resemble? Curves belong on tall Brazilian women,
bottles of Polish Vodka, & ItalianSports Cars.

^^ true I just wish Jeep would stick with what its best at: making guy's trucks/SUVs. But no we have to put the HEMI in our Jeeps because that's some crazy new engine design that everyone wants (yes I know its a 50 yr old design just your average soccer mom doesn't) And now we're gonna have His and Hers Jeeps. Gimme a break. Ok Rants over my wagoneer rocks mwhaha

Actually you have.
1997 Jeep Wrnagler 'Dakar' concept
<img src="http://files.conceptcarz.com/img/jeep/jheep_dakar_baltimore_06.jpg">
There's also a good possibility the Gladiator will go into production or a modified Wrangler Scrambler.

I never saw this concept before, but I like the idea.
there was no way Jeep would make a 4 door soft top
this vehicle actually makes allot of (marketing) sense.
now I can't wait to see the 2006 version.

The above picture looks like the Liberty and Wrangler had a one night stand and that is what came out.

I personally would like to see the Gladiator a vehicle available for the buyers, I think that is pretty nice looking.

As far as four door Wranglers, I am not to sure about it. There is a company that literally streches out stock jeeps and converts them to four doors if anyone is interested in checking out their site: http://www.backcountryjournal.com/stretch.htm

Have a good one,
Justin

For me, if the roof and doors don't come off, I wouldnt bother with a Wrangler, but the
4 door wrangler would probably sell, they already have the Unlimited chassis that would
have the length for a 4 door body.

Now this would definitely be a "his" jeep:

This is a from some company that customizes Wranglers http://www.aev-conversions.com

Too bad Chrysler would never make something like this, Kinda like the old Scramblers

I'm digging that^

I totally agree. Trucks and suvs should not have to many curves. If not, it starts to look like a tall station wagon.

AEV does some nice stuff when it comes to working on Wranglers. Chrysler doesn't neccessarily have to make it for you to buy it, AEV sells all those vehicles. They also have the SWB Wranglers, LWB Wranglers, HEMI converted Wranglers, etc. I am sure that the pricing is pretty steep but you could still purchase one if you want.

The Brute reminds me a of a Jeep that Road Armor did as well, it is not as clean looking as the Brute, but it is still pretty nifty:

Well guys I found a pic of what the 2007 Jeep Wrangler will most likely look like, its pretty damn nice IMO. Much better than the curent TJ, which looks pretty cheap in comparison:

New Jeep Compass:
Jeep will go ahead with plans to build a production four-wheel-drive Compass crossover based on the 2001 concept vehicle. Positioned below Wrangler, the $20,000 five-seater will compete with Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V and Land Rover Freelander.

When it goes into production in 2007, the crossover will mark a big departure for Jeep by placing its emphasis more on versatility than Rubicon off-road ability. However, traditional design cues such as a vertical seven-slot grille and round headlamps will maintain the family resemblance.

The introduction of the Commander and Compass will boost the number of Jeep model lines to five, while a sixth model based on the Gladiator pickup concept shown at January’s Detroit

Don't be suprised to see one soon. As I reported in my post 'Future Jeep models' They're rumored to be building a retro Jeepster off the PT Cruiser platform. For Jeep the Compass is the wrong way to go. Jeep has always stood for one thing, rugged durability to get you anywhere a car can't go.

A jeep crossover??? Tell me its not true PLEASE tell me its not true. I will forever be ashamed of my Jeep's badge now. At least they're not making that goofy electric thingie they've been showing at the auto shows this year. Treo I think its called. I have some pics from the show in DC but I'm too lazy to host them
