h22a swap
Monday, April 04, 2005 7:21 AM
ive searched and found years that were shown for the swap, but did not mention 1997 civic hatch. can this year civic hatch be swapped with h22a as easily as the years that are advertised? thanks for any info.

1996 to 2000 Civic hatch should be the same. I don't know if I would call a H22 swap into a Civic easy... if you looking for something easy, stick to the B series swaps. Yeah you won't get the same horsepower (unless you go B18R, but that is like $4500.. yikes), but you will most likely have less headaches.

If money wasn't too big of a deal I'd go with the K20 motor from the RSX Type S. Otherwise, go with a B18 from an integra GSR. Or LS-Vtec. The H22a swap is gonna run a pretty penny also. I'd go K20 all the way. That motor in that car would fly.

But more on topic. Yes its about the same as the other years.

My buddy swapped an h22a into his 95 Civic hatch, it took him weeks to do it, and he said it was not easy, and a hell of a lot of work. But since he now runs 11's, I would say it was worth it. Here is a few pics....

True..the K20 is timely and costly...I remember last easter time is when haasport came out with the motor mount kits for the K series swap..ahhh those were the good ole days. But for either the H or K you really don't see a bunch of them around due to the facts stated above.

The H series motors are overrated and not worth swapping into a civic (come to think of it, even if I had an accord the stock F series would be a better than an H). They have relatively shi++y ringlands, and you can't even put in forged pistons w/o resleeving the block. My brother has an H22 in his hatchback, and it really isn't all that impressive as compared to his B20/VTEC he had before.
The only reason I can see for wanting an H series motor is to satisfy the mentality that bigger is better.
But then again this is just the opinion of one honda guy.
