does anyone know the hp and torque on 1990 civic with the vtec. I lok on the internet to find the hp to be lower then 130!? hows that possible? I've never driven a car with an acceleration like that ever before. Are the vtecs actually a really fast engine or do I just think its fast because I drive a slow ass sunbird?

VTEC own JOO!!

nah, it's probably fast compared to what you drive.
It's like me driving in the 2200 ohv, then driving in the 04' eco with mods.
Just use to the slow car.

Yes, wrong forum, but.........

Yes, it's a "relatively" low number. The stock motors are not very powerful, it's where the motorswaps come in that things get interesting. The stock motors are only built for endurance and MPG. Which, in these times, MPG is like GOLD

no civic in the states had vtec before 92. so it was probley a b16 swapped into it. they have 160hp@7600rpms and 111lbs of torqe at like 7200. and the reason u think its accelerating so fast is because the tranny is sooo short geared, it goes through the gears hella quick.. if u watch the speedo when u accelarter instead of the tac, you will realize your not actually going that fast.. me and my buddies b16 crx are dead even till around 100 and he slowly pulls away from me.

Its also possible they did a head swap on it. Just as people do the LS-Vtec you can do the same on the D-Series motor. Just swap out the head and a few small parts. Gives you vtec. Its really not that complicated. D-Series.org and you can learn all about it.

i'm starting my 2nd Honda project, my last being a CRX w/ b18c5....i bought from my friend that did all the work himself. i bought it to keep it in the family, so to speak. any way it's a 1990 Civic 4-door and the engine is done. i bought it for $200 from a guy i worked with and is now in Iraq. the interior is mint and body is 100% dent and rust free....the paint however is done. my problem is this time i'm going to do all the work and my friend that did the swap in the CRX is helping me. i just can't clamp down if i should spring for the b18c5 like the mega fast CRX we had or go with the Si's 160hp b16.
people keep telling me it's better to go b16. but i can't deny that B18c5 was friggin' insane. what do my fellow j-bod guys think?

The B18C5 is a good motor. I wont lie. I have a friend with a yello 01 or 02 (dont remember, which ever year is the last year they made the integra) type r. Its nice and its pretty quick, but I think its overrated.

The 4-door has a little more weight on it, and a lot more then the CRX. The CRX is going to move no matter what you've got in it. If you've got the money to spring for a b18c5 I say do the LS-Vtec swap with Type R cams. You'll save a bundle and you wont be disappointed. Or being a bigger car go with the H22 swap.
