Going to the dark side
Sunday, November 02, 2008 10:40 AM
So I was driving around aimlessly in my pos Saturn yesterday, thinking about how much I hate this pos car with all it's creaks and rattles.. Then we drive by the Honda dealership, and gf says, why not pull in and see what they got (I was bitching to her about how much I hate my car).. So I pulled in.. Saw a 2005 Honda Accord for $14,999 (I'm in Canada btw).. I looked inside, saw it was a 5 speed, loaded and looked really clean. I immediately got excited and talked to guy I know that works there. He left to get the keys.. Comes back with a sad face, said the car was just sold a few mins ago.. Ahh well.. Was ready to walk out, but then he said, I do have something that just came in last night that you might like.. I looked and said, ahh yeah? He said, yup.. Come with me.. So we follow him out into the parking lot, it was freezing cold outside. We come up to a 2006 Honda Civic LX.. 5 speed, loaded, new set of tires on.. But very dirty lol.. He hasn't even been in it yet to get it detailed, etc. He said, so what do you think? I know it's dirty, but I'll have it cleaned up.. Did you want come back sometime for test drive? I said.. Can I test drive it now? He was like, well.. I haven't even been in it yet.. You could see 2 empty coffee cups in the cup holders lol. He said, you know what, what the hell.. Come back inside with me and I'll grab the keys.. He gets the cars, takes out the coffee cups and tells us to get in.. Come back in an hour, ok? So we take off.. And man, what a nice car. Only 60,000KM's on it, and not a single squeek or moan unlike my Ion, which only has 50,000KM's on it. So we drove it around, was pretty fun. Road noise was kinda excessive but that's probably because it has pretty knobby winter tires on it, that look brand new.

So we took it back, I told him I want it.. We came to a price of $16,300 which he's going to throw in a set of Kumho tires in. I did the loan app, but because it was done on a Sat, won't know if it'll go through till tomorrow morning. If it goes through, I'll be picking up my car on Wed or thurs, needs to be detailed and a small ding on the door taken out. Argggh I hate waiting lol..

The LX's look nice, built great, awesome gas mileage but slow as a dog. Don't get it expecting it to be anything but slow. Very reliable and everything else. Nice cars I like them. Going to the dark side isn't so bad. I'm very happy with my integra.

The dark side isnt so dark ]:->

The newer civics are very nice cars and that price seems pretty good from what you described. Hope everything work out and then you can come and kick it on the Honda sites

16,300? For a used 06 LX? I'd rethink my purchase if I were you. I think that's definitely too much.

Brand new 09 Civic LX retails for 17,155. I'm willing to bet you can get a brand new one for less than 16,300.

Well he is in Canada and the prices are a bit screwy up there.

At least that is my understanding, hopefully he is not getting screwed.

It felt pretty peppy on the test drive.. Shifting at 7k rpm's was a blast. I'm sure if it was auto, it would feel a lot slower. I had test drove an auto civic last year, and it felt pretty sluggish..

I looked around and checked it out myself.. I found one for a bit cheaper, but had over 100,000KM's on it.. I figure the low mileage, and 4 new tires, the extended warranty/roadside assistance and me being in Canada, it's a fair price..

Okay, is it morning yet? Ughh lol..

Your going to hate that car in a year. I warn you now. There are so many recalls out for them. I work at a Honda dealer in Canada. I find anything 06+ is @!#$ IMO. Too many issues, and to much coin used. But if you like it, Congrats!

Nice cars, but they are alot of money. Not to say it isn't worth it, but for example I want a Civic SI with the aero kit on it. But I don't think I'll be able to justify spending over $31000 + tax ($35 000+ with tax) for the one equipped like I'd want it. For that money I'd rather buy a slightly used Acura TSX. Fortunately I still have a couple years to decide. My sister is in the same boat. They want a CRV but don't think they want to spend almost $40 000 on it, and you can't get your hands on a used one.

Good choice though.

whats the deal with everyone wanting a new honda. I worked at a honda dealership last year (tom wood honda) and after working there I will never ever own a new honda I seen so many come and go and then come right back. I even seen this lady buy a 05 accord and right before she pulled it off the lot it died ( she still wanted it.) the honda's that seemed like they were better were the early/mid 90s models. the elements omg don't get me started on those. BTW I was a detailer out there the mechanics bay was right next to them, funny thing none of them owned a honda. Only people that owned a honda at that dealership was the salesman but they were mostly advertising cars. The CRVs were my fav but they hold water like no other. BUT maybe it was just that dealership ...... A old lady came in wanting to buy her 17 yr old daughter a car for a "congrats getting your license present" well it turned out to be a older accord I cant remember what year it was a late 90s model. well anyways the car had cig burns in the backseat, tint faded, over 110k miles, paint was pretty bad, sounded like @!#$, there was a power and ground wire from a system still plugged in just chilling in the trunk ( the salesman took the system for himself and wouldn't let us take the wires out), stereo was a cheap ass pioneer deck. Tom wood honda sold that for 6000 to that old lady sadly yeah she took it. ..... Not long after that I quit, the boss slammed his door in my face and told me he needs to get me the hell out of there and I wrote on my evaluation paper that they can go @!#$ their selves. It was pretty cool I got escorted out they walked me to my car and while I spun out leaving I flipped them the bird. holy @!#$ theres more smileys

I got the car late yesterday afternoon, been driving it ever since! lol. I quickly snapped some pics this morning before driving out to show my mom. Here's some pics.

I would say the car is definite upgrade over a Saturn Ion. I didn't expect things like heated mirrors, auto up and down windows, Outside temp reading, oil life percentage counter and low windshield washer fluid indicator.. I know to most people those are small things, but I think it's pretty cool. Anyways, comments, suggestions for mods, etc.

Very nice looking car and my god those are some mean looking winter tires haha. Congrats on the purchase glad you like it.

Re: Going to the dark side

Hehe yeah, the tires are pretty insane. The road noise is quite loud after 80km/hr I find. But it will be nice to drive with confidence once the snow starts to fly. Right now I'm looking at an AEM intake for it.

Looks great. I also have a Civic and love it. The 06+ cars get amazing gas mileage...

Gas mileage so far has been awesome.. I drove all the day the day I got it, then drove another 2 hours on the highway.. Only cost me $22.00 to fill it, that's gas at close to $4/gallon still.. I was quite impressed.

Well, you think.. A 2009 civic lx after msrp, freight/pdi and taxes is over $25,000 Canadian.. I hate it that we still get screwed on car prices..
