Opel Astra OPC
Monday, February 21, 2005 7:40 PM
This is from the Geneva Autoshow that will be held this year. Opel's Astra OPC is a sporty two-door powered by a 240-hp, 2.0-liter turbocharged engine. Sales begin in the fall. The OPC is based on the Astra high-performance concept shown at the 2004 Paris auto show last September. Now I don't know about you people, but I think this should have been the next Cavalier or Cobalt or what ever name you wanna call it. Now thats a Delta!!!

Europeans are always getting the nicer cars. If GM would just bring in a couple of the cars produced by Opel and Holden maybe they'd make some money.

Totally agree man. Now if they were slap on that new suspension that I brought up here sometime ago, combine with that.^ Man, the competition would be scrambling. But atleast we're are getting Holden's RWD cars here soon.

Are you talking about this?
-----------------------------

But let me be the first to say, this should have been the next Cavalier/Cobalt or whatever name you want to give it.
Instead the U.S. gets a bulbous Cavalier. Sigh...

look closer it has the same break as the Cobalt. the line IS fine but it's there. and it even incorporates the Cobalts minor wheel flare. now that bumper and those headlights would improve upon the Cobalts looks 100 fold.

i saw an opel astra here in michigan one day. had a manufacturers plate so maybe they do have plans of bringing them over?
Re: Opel Astra OPC

no, i've seen a few Opel mini-vans, and a couple of last gen Astra coupes at Great Lakes Crossing and a couple of Tigra's on 94 and down river, followed a Vectra on 75 south to ohio once. all had manufacturers plates. and this was from around 1998 to 2004. none of those cars....with the exception of the Astra (i.e Cobalt) ever came of it. i guess since they can't be sold or licenced here GM brings them here with manufacturers plates so they can do testing they can't do overseas?

Yhea it's under the same platform, but on the Opel, the underpinning is updated then what you'll find on the US delta, the interior has real quality to it, and IMO the exterior is excellent. Oh... did I mention 240HP Turbo engine too.
Now tell me, instead of GM wasting money designing a updated Cavalier body look, GM could have save money and done some badge engineering by removing the lightening bolt on the grille and put a bow tie. And wallah... the next Cavalier or Cobalt or whatever you wanna call it.

No offence, but those headlights aren't even close. The
Cobalts are longer and have a sharper edge at the outer 'tips'

too bad though......
