Luke, I was wondering after your flash, and I go to start the car will the car die as soon as I turn the key? You know, like the theft crap you get when you switch clusters.. Or will it start right up, *bearing a good tune*. ?

BEWARE!!! The knock sensor doesn't work with this set-up. I'm going with an aftermarket.

Just for kicks, I looked up our Knock sensors on advanced auto and our 1999's are the same as the 2000+ one's.. Same part number and everthing.. So I wonder why yours isnt working.

David, yeah you have a 2000 pcm, but you do not have a 2000 wiring harness.

It should work. The pinout and circuit #'s are the same for '99 and '00. C1-32Grey (circuit 1716)and C1-34Dark Blue (circuit 496)...

Guess I should say "If you have a '99". If you haven't wired your '97 pinouts to a '99 2-wire Knock Sensor they won't work.

The wiring is the same, yet the knock sensor still doesn't work. Had it.....I may not have blown my engine, although I don't think detonation was the reason.

MSD makes aftermarket knock sensors with a display box that shows knock. If you want to get the most out of the MSD set-up you can get a timing control box for your Dis-2 and retard the timing with a turn of a knob until the knock is gone. I haven't verified yet if there is a direct replacement for our cars available from MSD for the knock sensor to use the stock location.

Yeah, it doesn't make sense. I don't know why it wouldn't work. It sure should.

Luke yours not working either?
Also David, not trying to correct you, just making sure you do not blow up your car.

Nope, mine isn't working. Shows zero knock all the time no matter what. I know I don't have THAT good of a tune Plus the CEL just came on, scanned it and it was a high voltage or something on the knock sensor. Ughhh....

I'm honestly very skeptical of this swap... From what I see it's going to be alot of work to get things right. It basically is going to require a fully custom dash with different gauges or the entire car to be wired over to a 2000+... I honestly don't see why those looking to run a speed density tune don't just do the 97pcm and flash the gm reflash onto it. I realize there is no IPW multiplier table if you do this which restricts those looking for high boost on their turbo's but you can make up with this by using an FMU. The FMU will allow you to mechanically raise you fuel pressure and not over extend your VE tables. Then you simply pull fuel out where needed in the VE to get your AFR right... This is how I plan to tune my 99 next season

^^Its so hard to find a 97 speed density pcm, let alone it being an auto for me. Thats why Im going this route for now..

I purchased a Caspers knock sensor and gauge a while back, but never used it. Is this something that you guys could use?

question what do you have to do to your car if you put in a different pcm but same service number to make it start? and run

better yet is there an easier way of switching one out without reprogramming it

*UPDATE*

Well thanks to Mat(whininz) I am now about 80% tuned... I swapped the 2000 s/c pcm into my car(the whole unit) and added the 2 bar map and now am seeing boost.. AND OH MY GOSH does it pull now.. The most I got on it was 70% throttle and it was only at 5-7 psi... And it just wanted to keep going, but I blew an intercooler pipe at the TB hehe..

Also,, My car sees knock.. Why, well I think because I have the complete 2000 pcm.. Most of my warning lights are on... Coolant, oil, battery and theft light with no tach.. But thats ok, Ill just get an aftermarket one..

Just wanted to update you guys.. More tuning to come on Thurs..
