David.......that is really good news!
Is your knock sensor pinned like the 99 one?

Mike, yup, didnt even touch the knock sensor.. I am getting false knock sometimes but, we can see its working during the road tuning. Its weird, im getting knock when I let off the gas, but if im on the gas there is no knock.. Go figure.. lol

Yeah Mike, running pretty good.. It sucks I dont have the ECT gauge though. John317(Gary) is looking to see if it can be rewired to my 99 to it will work.. The pin outs on the 99 and 00 are excactly the same.. NOt sure why its not working though..

Me and Mat just got back from doin some highway tuning.. He was talkin about me because I wouldnt give it full throttle lol.. I never really got over 60% throttle..

But, whats weird is that after every time he flashes a new tune on my car, we go to start the car and it starts up lean.. My fuel pressure reads 20psi ... But if we sit there for about 10 mins, the pressure raises on my gauge then we can start the car fine.. Now explain that one lol.

I have a test for you. Tune the ignition on, and let the fuel pump kick on and turn off. Do this about three times, and see what your fuel pressure reads. I cav does the same thing when really cold. I.E. driving in a snow storm. It has not seen snow in a little while, but that always fixed the lean at start I had every once in a while.

Hey does anybody know if there is a gauge that we could wire in to get the ECT to work? If so, how?

Thanks.

I'm honestly very skeptical of this swap... From what I see it's going to be alot of work to get things right. It basically is going to require a fully custom dash with different gauges or the entire car to be wired over to a 2000+... I honestly don't see why those looking to run a speed density tune don't just do the 97pcm and flash the gm reflash onto it. I realize there is no IPW multiplier table if you do this which restricts those looking for high boost on their turbo's but you can make up with this by using an FMU. The FMU will allow you to mechanically raise you fuel pressure and not over extend your VE tables. Then you simply pull fuel out where needed in the VE to get your AFR right... This is how I plan to tune my 99 next season

HUH? Has anyone done this? Does anyone know if this works?

Any update on this? Anyone successfully get a '00+ gauge cluster to work? I haven't had much time to work on mine with school, but the knock sensor is still not working, and can't seem to figure it out :-(

Well I have the cluster and all, but I haven't had the time or the money to mess with it.

My knock is working, but it gives fals knock.. Ill have to have Mat explain it better..
Also, I dont have a 00 cluster.. Or else Id try it out. I dont wanna buy one off of ebay and it not work for me lol.. I got my aftermarket 2- 1/16 TACH gauge hooked up.. Still need the water temp gauged hooked up though. If we get the 00 cluster and it works, obviously us seeing the mileage will go away.. I dont know if I want that.

Any1 try using the 2k gauge cluster yet? Im thinking about doin this just to see what would happen with my 2k+ PCM.

wow after reading all of this it made me wonder i have a 99 grand am and i remember that a few years ago i hit a hard bump and this black box fell from under the passenger side wich i dint know what it was till now , but my question is how is it that i have a 99 grand am with low impedence injectors a small starter , egr and their is a BCM in my car?

this is probably why when i swaped my cluster to a grand am GT from a 2001 the cluster worked just fine on my 99.

Looking at the pinouts for the 00 and the 99 for my grand am the only difence i see is

c1-14 serial data uart............this is on the 00 ecu
c1-14 not used .........this is on the 99 ecu

c1-50 engine coolant ........... on the 00
c1-50 not used .............on the 99

c1-55 not used........... on the 00
c1-55 fuel level input ............on the 99

connector 2

c2-10 rpm tach output...........on the 00
c2-10 not used .....................on the 99

this one is actually more of a pain for me since i have 2 fans on my car

c2-54 cooling fan relay ............for the 00
c2-54 LH fan control........for the 99

c2-59 not used................. on the 00
c2-59 RH fan control.......on the 99.

I found this interesting since still doesnt make sence that i have a BCM but this was a side by side look with my 99 grand am pcm pinouts and a cavalier or whatever those pin outs came from so now i have to go get the pcm pinouts for the 00 grand am to see the difference on this one.

also another thing no one has mention is the injectors do they have to be high or can you run low resistant injectors still..

well i did my reseach and turns out that i can flash my 99 grand am cause the only difference between my 99 and a 00 grand am is the EGR and the injector impedence, both the ecu have the same pinouts. As for the BCM , all the pinouts are the same and the only difference is the keyless wire thats all my 99 dont have one.

ecu for the 99 and 00 grand am are the same pinouts.
bcm for 99 and 00 are the same pinouts, they get a little more technical about the names on the pin outs but they are the same trust me i spent all day looking at this, i got both the pinouts for the 99 and 00 ecu and bcm from the dealership.

sorry but this i guess is only for the N body. im so glad im not doing this to my cavalier cause it sounds more complicated.

J S wrote:On a side note. I downloaded a 2000 supercharger reflash file into my 99 pcm and it works. The only issue I have is with the BCM. All of the warning lights stay on. Also, the tach, and ect gauge don't work but the speedometer and fuel level do. Aside from the tach, ect and warning lights everything else works perfect.

Has anyone tried to relflash a 1997 - 1998 ECU with the 2000 supercharger reflash?

If it worked on the 1999 it should, since the 1997 through 1999 ECU is the same PN for the J Body. Here is the AC Delco interchange list:
