both the 02 2.4 S/C reflashes I've messed with have been fine, as far as letting me into it....... but I had heard that the ECO reflash was going to be tuffer to crack...... guess I pissed off the wrong guys giving out the 2.4 reflash for cheap to everyone.....

I'll down load that 2.1.11, and send Shifted the 02 Eco file I picked up today.

I also grabed a 'VCM Info Log' from a '96 Z24..... just in case they wanted to look at it.

Protomec...... they'll probably want you to send a VCM info log for the 98, they probably havnt had anyone plug into it yet (as mine didnt work on the 02 when I got it, had to wait for an update, and my current version wouldnt open the 99 .hpt file I have)

There are a few confused issues here:

3. Some folks have emailed me calibrations where the calibration ID has been purposely set to zero to prevent identification of the calibration. There is no way we can identify these files and i can assure you that there are no stock calibrations in the GM TIS database that have a Cal ID of 0. This practice is not new and many LS1, V6 and other tuners in the past have purposely set the identifiers and VIN# to junk to prevent identification as a way of "locking" their tunes. We cannot allow people to use their credits on vehicles that we cannot support. Imagine the complaints we would get if you licensed a PCM and then we told you sorry its not supported. I can understand this is frustrating but there is nothing we can do about it.

Chris...

I do not care if I license the particular vehicle that I tried to download the .bin file from.
I am only interested in "seeing" it. I would be willing to sacrifice a license to do so, if I could. I can perfectly understand blocking the license in general when the CAl ID is unknown, since it isn't likely anything would work at all if it was downloaded and adjusted, leading to many irate customers who wasted credits for no use in the end.

I was hoping, though, that we (me or HP or anyone else) could somehow download it at least once and (HP only here) try to view it using , as an example, the original non-SC OS or similar. Then maybe even "correct" the Cal ID so that the average customer could view it.

I would like to view it so that I could kinda copy it as a base Forced Induction tune for me to start with. It would give me basic rescaling for the 2.5bar MAP it uses and clue me into a decent base Injector Constant for Forced Ind.

At least that was what I was hoping for when I connected to the car.

Chris,

I'm the one who sent you the hp log that had a ECM OS ID of 0. Here's the latest regarding that car:

I managed to scan it with a tech 2. The CAL ID I'm seeing on the car is 12607610. However, this number isn't showing up at all on GM's calid site. What the hell???

I can assure you again, the reflash was performed by an authorized dealer and is absolutely legit.

Is there anyway you can take the CAL ID and see it into the HPT file I sent you?!??!?!? That would at least give us a starting point since you now know how to handle the file.

I'm retarded. I'm not able to send you an HPT file because I wasn't able to get the hp tuners software to recognize the vcm. hmmm.

Well, I tested the fan temp yesterday and that worked. I tested the VATS and it didn't work. The default setting for mine was disabled. I set to enabled, wrote the file, then set it back to disabled and wrote and the car won't start. The only way I have of testing it is pulling the instrument cluster, if there is another please let me know

I haven't sent the file to HP yet, because I want to verify with you guys that I am testing it correctly

I'm another person with an ecotec with the gm s/c and reflash, and yes i had the same problem of the software not wanting to read my calibration. So what is the bottom line? Is this software ever going to work for our cars? and if so when and what do we have to do to get it to work? This is aggravating to say the least. Also, what about the scanner, I tried using it, and it appeared to be working...i think. Some of the values seemed a bit odd at first sight, but I'll have to look into it more to know for sure. Is the reflash messing with the scanners values too? or can we still use it? Thanks

Guys,

I hate to be the bearer of REALLY bad news, but HP Tuners is not supporting th 2.2 Ecotec suprcharger reflash:

So if they're not supporting the ecotec supercharger reflash, would it be a good idea for us to go back to the stock pcm and then edit from there? or have too many things been changed for the reflash that it would be difficult/near impossible? Would it be a good idea to try and buy a new ecm from a junkyard? I found some locally to me at about $50 using www.car-part.com. Thanks for any advice

Re: The HP Tuners FAQ

That would be the best Idea...... unless they can figure out a way to upload a Cobalt SS S/C flash into the ecm.....

Maybe running a stock ECM with just a standered 2 bar would be a good start though....... You can always have someone copy the 'changes' between the N/A 2.4 and S/C 2.4 (in the spark and fuel areas) and have you add/subtract that from your stock tune...... it might not be perfect, but at least its a start.

I wouldn't do that if you already own the HPT system. The licensing scheme is tied to the serial number of the ECM and NOT the VIN number. Therefore, you'd have to cough up another $100 or 2 credits to read the ECM.

Re: The HP Tuners FAQ

Well as it stands now I haven't used any credits, I just got the system. So, if I understand right, it only takes 2 credits to license a vehicle. So I could license a stock ecm and maybe later down the road if they fix this put the old one back in and license it and still have 4 credits left with no extra money spent, right?

Anyone else have any thoughts about the idea of somehow using the cobalt SS/SC calibration? Anyone know how that would work? If nothing else, could we buy a ss/sc ecu and put it in our cars? or are they not compatible?

wow, that was alot of reading... So, has anyone with an eco actually seen any improvements with this? More specifically the N/A guys?

Also I am a bit confused as to whether or not you can sucessfully raise the rev/speed limiter. There seemed to be some problems with that.

And would the fact that my cars Check Engine Light is on affect anything?

$650 is alot of money and I just want to make sure that there won't be any problems if I do decide to get this.

I raised the speed limiter in mine successfully. Last night I went out and hit 130...

I'm not sure that a lot of n/a eco's have tried this yet. I have a couple people lined up to use it when I get down to Houston, but as of yet, I don't think anybody has screwed with it. I will say that in my 2.4, as soon as I made my high and low octane spark tables to be the same, it pulled a LOT harder, so much so that I blew my tranny

Yeah, I was tuning out the knock retard in the high octane table. I got as much as 8 degrees of knock retard in spots, and mostly in the center of the table and the very bottom right corner. Got it all taken care of though, no more knock retard

As far as the tranny goes, I really don't care. It still drives, it just slips a LOT. Its just gotta make it till next weekend when I get the 5 speed, lsd, short shifter, and spec stage 3 clutch installed

good work man, thats some wicked retard, with the reflash max I can see is 6 and I was getting it... when I get home and install the 650cc and HPT, hopefully I can pinpoint the issues, and fix it from there. And you will be very happy with the LSD and spec clutch. Did you get the 4 or 6 puck? or the plus now I guess, apparently that one is more, I got the 6 and it works really well.

Not the plus, its the straight Stage 3, not sure how many puck, got it from Karo, it was a return where somebody tried screwing him over (they used the TO bearing, sent it back, and did a chargeback), so he gave it to me for a really good deal.

I don't think an evap leak puts the ecu into limp mode.
