Megasquirt Revisited
Wednesday, July 13, 2005 11:05 AM
Just curious as to who else is now using a Megasquirt on their J. I know Excidium and a couple other people have posted about it in the past. I'm wondering if there's anybody new to using the system.

Excidium, if possible, I'd appreciate a reply to that message I send you via JBO messaging regarding the Megasquirt.

People are going to ask why I'm asking questions regarding the MS. Quite frankly, I'm ditching the E-Manage. I'm sick of the stupid little problems I'm having with it like stalling at 10% throttle, constant rpm hunting at certain times because the E-Manage is fighting the ECU, etc.

There's been some pretty hefty advancements of the MS since the last time anyone has posted about it. The greatest being that ignition via GM's DIS system is controllable through the MS. There's also hundreds of other little gadgets in the system that I would absolutely love to have on my car.

That's why I'm switching.

Any comments/help are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

andy, nate keene (rawdawg) had bought it and assembled and everything last i knew and i think he may have got it hooked up before the seals in his turbo blew.. not 100% though but i know he got it all together and everything. one huge advantage=the cost. it was only like 180 bucks. then my other buddy put it together.

Unless Nate actually had it on his car, that doesn't help me. I'm curious as to who is actually using it.

I will be buying one this friday (payday) along with a few other things for my turbo build. I REALLY want to be able to wire in the ignition so if ANYBODY knows how let me know, I can wire in the rest no problem but the ignition stuff gets complicated for me.

Keep the MS posts alive!

I have just finished building my Megasquirt and loaded it with the MegaSquirt 'n' Spart -extra code. I think I will be trying an install next week and seeing if I can get spark to work correctly. There has been some concern as to if it will actually work.

Just to reiterate, the Megasquit forums are HERE.

I'll try and remeber to keep you guys up to date on my progress here as well.

i'm watching this thread.
i'm debating between megasquirt or emanage.

I'm reading up an megasquirt and see if i have the skill do to it. if i think i can do it and make it work correctly this is the way i'm going for sure..lots of the technical mumbo jumbo is keeping me away though .

Yea I've been running my MS since a month before my very first post about it in this forum. It's come a long way since then development wise, with a lot of exciting features being added almost continuously.

Please get in contact with me Excidium. You can email me at thepute2@aol.com or IM me at The Pute 2.

I would like to discuss your base maps for the system as well as the features you've implemented up to this point. Thanks.

Robbie c : If you could lend a hand in terms of the VE tables (as i see you have 2.2ohv as well) it would be appreciated.

Well, I ordered all of my Megasquirt stuff last night:

New v3.0 full kit, Megasquirt-II CPU, Stimulator kit, relay board kit.

I know the relay board isn't necessary, but I want to retain my factory harnesses so I can switch back to stock in the event the MS craps out on me while I'm on the road.

Excidium,

What's the Digi-Key part number for the resistors you ordered? Here's what I found:

Digi-Key Part Number: RHD-2.5-ND
Manufacturer Part Number: RH0502R500FC02
Description: RES 2.5 OHM 1%50W ALUM HOUSED WW
Unit Price: $6.25

Is this what you used?

I know that it may not run well, but it would probably be a heck of a lot closer to what i need than the default VE table. I'm more just curious to see what your table looks like in comparison to what I end up getting.

I hate to admit it, but i too am looking into going to a full stand alone. Don't get me wrong, i love the e-manage, and have had very few problems with it and made decent power, but it's still a piggy back fuel computer. And it has some limitations that i want to get around so that i can make even more power. I'm mostly looking into either FAST or Megasquirt. My biggest problem so far has been figuring out the crank sensor problem with the FAST system, and the fact that i'm running an ls1 tb. But i'll get them figured out and let you guys know what route i go.

Anyone interested in buying my e-manage let me know!!!

I have MSII for my setup but i have been extra lazy getting everything together since i drive this car pretty much daily right now. I have everything in place and working except the coolant temp sensor witch i should have straight tomoro. once thats right ill pop the new injectors in and see how it does. for ignition controll im not going to bother with the gm dis atall. i am using edis with mine hopefully that will work out.

Doesn't EDIS require a crank trigger and sprocket? Yuck. Seems easier to me to just cut up some wires to get the GM DIS working.

This text is taken from the website http://megasquirt.sourceforge.net/extra/select.html

Quote:

EDIS mode
Controls Ford EDIS ignition module for wasted spark distributorless ignition
Can be installed on most even fire 4,6,8 cylinder 4 stroke automotive engines
Requires a 36-1 trigger disc mounted on the crank, many Fords from 1990 onwards already have the trigger disc or teeth cut into the flywheel. Suitable discs are available new and used.
Has been installed on a few rotaries.
EDIS has a quoted upper limit of 9000rpm, but in practice some have seen 9300 or 10500rpm
The EDIS install offers a DIY ignition solution on engines that are distributorless from the factory.

it does but i have yet to see where someone has sucessfully made the gm dis work on a quad4 or ld9. that and i allready have the parts. its really not that big of a deal to swap on + i get a nice clean ignition signal from it.

Well........

I got all of my MegaSquirt stuff today in the mail.....I built it all too. haha

The MegaTune software for this guy rocks. Lots of sweet features to play around with.

Like I've been saying all along, if anyone can drop me their maps ASAP, that would be great.

I anticipate throwing at least the fuel portion of this thing on the car within the next week or so.

Getting excited!

mr pute where is my emanage.tools.alpha!!!

just a month or so ago i was FURIOUS at using the emanage with these 550cc injectors. excidium can confirm that, i think i was yelling for him to make me a megasquirt unit (sorry excidium!).

actually after all my frustration, i think i made a decent map where the car seems to run pretty well on. the 10% throttle stall i too experience from time to time, lately it seems to be disappearing but who knows. i had and have this 2000rpm lean point but i finally got the fuel rich enough to not make it noticeable. i had other problems like running to rich or lean, but just constant laptop use and using all the features seem to have done the trick.

bottomline i wish you still with the emanage mr pute. you alone have brought the jbody community up to speed with everything the emanage has to offer and then some. such as the emanage gold, and the alpha tools which i am still waiting for (goombalife aim).

if you really want to rid the 10% throttle cut, unplug the o2 sensor! if i do that the 550's start to takeover way to much, but are your injectors as big as those? i still was able to pull enough fuel out for cruise without the o2 plugged in (14.5:afr) with a .5 conversion factor and -50 across the air flow map.

anyway keep at it!

Here ya go bud. Sorry I haven't gotten back to ya.

http://drizze99.conforums3.com/index.cgi?board=software&action=display&num=1109660903

Unplugging the O2 sensor causes you to trip a code or two. Simple as that. Not to push the MS over the E-Manage but why mess with codes when you can do away with them all-together with the MS?

Like I said, I'm moving on.

You gotta admit that no codes, no speed limiter, no rev limiter, absolute control over fuel and spark, unlimited programming capabilities via open source firmware, etc. sounds extremely pleasing.

I intend to disable the ECU to the point of it controlling only ABS, EVAP, and gauges. The MS will do all of the dirty work with total control given to me.
