Linux makes it so I don't have to write an OS, makes updating easy, writing the application easy, it just simplifies the hell out of the development side of it. The user will not even realize that there is linux on it, they will never interface to the shell, just the programming software.

Updated copy of the schematics, almost done with the main board

After that is the I/O board, and if anybody is keen in noticing, this thing has 64mb of RAM, 1gb FLASH, and runs Linux. This is a full single board computer and could be used as a stand-alone linux box (minus a monitor connection, it only has serial or ethernet shells).

So given the major update you just posted, what would you think the finish date/beta testing will begin? (assuming there wion't be any tragic flaws causing you to redo the entire mainboard, or personal troubles on the road of life?)

Personal troubles on the road of life are what has given me time to work on this lately. The project that I've been putting in over 80-100hrs per week has been put on hold and my boss and his boss have been "let go". Provided I still have a job I do have some time to work on this now. I will be having one of my friends help me with the linux driver development as soon as I get the main board done and the I/O board finished. The boards should take another 2 weeks or so, probably 3 since I have to spend a week at a trade show. After that I can begin development so by the end of the first quarter next year I should have a working prototype.

First go around render of the "brain board"... Schematic for the main board is done, I will do the I/O board next...

Not the final form factor or layout as I couldn't get all the signals routed. If anybody is good at laying out boards with Eagle please contact me, this is my weak point and what takes me the longest... Board is physically 4.95"x2.75".

Yeah I have an MIS degree, but I studied Software Engineering for 2 years. I also work for a company that does a lot of electronics so I get experience that way.
