Input impedance to the pic was to low and source impedance from the trans switch signal was too high. This brought the input voltage to the board down to 6.8V, and the pic was seeing 2.2V when switched. The transistors came yesterday, so we'll see what happens.

well brian has my B&M shift plus and an auto trans unit of mine... plan is to combind the two to make the ATI basically able to be shut off via the B&M unit.

id like to be able to have the B&M work just like it does but have the ATI do off, 50% and 100% if possible.

best of both worlds!

*edit* what does this benefit? means you can have a nice cruizer vehicle and at the flip of a switch have 100% line pressure for racing, and or abusive driving. yes i get that HPT does this better... however, a tune takes a few minutes to burn in and really, flipping a switch is a hell of a lot easier and more convient then flashing the ECM.

I will take some measurements, and in the coming days, reveal how the Interceptor works. Unfortunately, though, I only have a crap multimeter. I ordered an AMProbe AM-270 about a week ago, but it won't ship until probably the end of May

I still haven't done anything with my circuit since, but I do know how the ATI adjusts pressure. It's pretty much what I had expected. I tried walking through the TCC side, and got lost on a couple traces. The TCC side is more complex, and naturally so, because it s designed to delay TCC engagement, and not linearly reduce current to the TCC like the PCS side does. I will dive back into it later today probably. I'm holding off on starting a thread on how the ATI works (like I did for the ShiftPlus) untill I have the TCC side completely understood.

In any case, for the PCS side, the potentiometer on the ATI gates a mosfet which adjusts the amount of current going through the ATI instead of the solenoid. There's also a 1ohm resistor inline with the mosfet, but basically, you can think of the circuit like a high power handling/ low impedance potentiometer. So, it essentially functions the exact same way as the B&M...except the B&M probably sinks more current on its "2" setting than the PCS does on fully turned . It's also probably worth noting that the ATI's 1ohm resistor appears to be a 2.5w or 5w carbon resistor (they painted over all the components in an attempt to hide them I guess, ). When you compare that to the B&M's beefy cemented 10w resistors, that limits how much the ATI can sink more than the ShiftPlus. On the contrary, though, I've never actually measured the current with the B&M, so I don't even know how necessary that 10w capacity really is. I intend to get an AEMC sl261 for my scope before too long to help with my circuit, so maybe if Brad would be able to hold out long enough, I can get some data to compare the Interceptor's range vs the ShiftPlus's. It's his stuff, though, so it's entirely up to him.

I'm going to be pretty busy this weekend, so I don't even know when I'll be able to get back to my circuit. We'll see.

You know what, just ignore this train of thought all together. A 1ohm 2.5w or 5w resistor can handle a higher current than a 5ohm 10w resistor

2.5w 1ohm.....1.6A
5.0w 1ohm.....2.2A
10.0w 5ohm...1.4A

This is elementary, and I'm not exactly sure what I was thinking. My apologies.

Well, I received the current probe today. If any of you are even the slightest bit interested in my thoughts on the product, you can read my small review here --> AEMC SL261 current probe review

Now that I have a non-invasive way of measuring max EPC and TCC solenoid currents, I'm less worried about connecting my controller to the trans. I will probably check the max currents first before I continue to debug the trans switch issue. I am still waiting on the multimeter (which just shipped Tuesday), but I should be able to finish up Brad's stuff without it. That way I can...

1) Get Brad what he wants in a timely manner
2) Get you guys what I know you want (A full review of the ATI operation as well as empirical data comparing the Interceptor and ShiftPlus PCS control)
AND finally
3) Revert my attention back to the transmission project.

Sorry again for the hold ups and aggravating delays. My current goal is to have a working prototype of my circuit by mid July.

Update...




So, for those who can't watch videos at work, or don't care to watch boring videos, this is what's going on...

I solved the trans switch problem with a common emitter buffer . Both the Jbody PCM and my TCU read the proper gear selects. The output from the trans switches are between 9.3 and 10V. The PIC sees between 4.7V to 5V when not switched, which is well above the logic "high" threshold. In regards to the video, the reason a couple lever changes don't change the led's is because a CE buffer inverts the signal. So, all it requires is a very simple reprogram of the PIC, and the led sequence would have made more sense..

However, I discovered a new problem. No matter what lever position or gear I'm in (if in "D"), the engine acts like it has some kind of rev limiter at 3000 RPM. I really had no idea what was going on, but the more I think about it, I have a few ideas now. I'm running speed density, but I'm thinking there still might be an issue with the TPS signal. I'll have to hook up my laptop to see what MSII is seeing as far as sensors, but that will have to be done another day. My biggest fear though, is that what's causing this limiter might be excessive advance. If that's the case, then I'm going to have to be far more careful from now on with how I approach this problem than I was in the video.

Oh, as a side note, I also walked through the TCC side of the Autotrans Interceptor no less than 5 times, and I honestly am confused as far as what's going on with the circuit. I'll have to probe it on a running engine to actually see what it's doing, I guess. I'm honestly really sick of looking at the circuit though, so I'm probably just going to get Brad some configuration that he can agree on and be done with it. So if you guys want me to just show the circuit schematic (as best as I could follow it) along with the PCS schematic, I can do that. Just let me know and I'll make a thread about it.

It seems like it it is acting like it's in neutral or park if it is revving to 3000.

Again, I've been running full MSII (spark and fuel) for years. My rev limiter is set to 7500. The problem has nothing to do with the jbody pcm limiter. So hpt wouldn't solve anything. It has to be signal related. I'll hook up my laptop tomorrow and see what's going on. I am highly confident it's the tps, but without data to support that, it's merely speculation. We'll see.

I believe this is actually the exact same problem PJ had when setting up his MS-I. I'm not too worried, just a little disappointed.
