HP will be only software from now on, Superchips will handle the hardware, and MSD will provide the tech support.
This is good because it will free up time at HP to develop the promised product, instead of spending time answering phone questions.
Version 2.0, which was promised to support the 4cyls, will be on sale very shortly, if not already out.
But there is no 4cyl support. Keith told me that the 1st one supported will probably be Cobalt SS in maybe a month, with others to follow as demand presents itself.
Right now though they are really focusing on the new GM V8s (LS2).

This place is just stringing us along by our short hairs......... they've been saying the same thing since the beginning of this...... Now their going to skip over us, and start on the Cobalt SS...... thats the biggest BS I've seen. How many Cobalt SS's are out there? How many are owned by people that are even modding them?

The market for the J-bodies is here, as shown by this post, posts on their web site, all the boosted and modified J's out there....... Why are they blind to us? I can not find the words to express how pissed off I am about this crap.

Couldn't have said it better myself.
X3....And what pisses me off more is GM and psifi already have or are developing tuning software and updates for the Cobalt.....We simply are getting no love here...

It's all about business. If they decide to skip over us for a bigger and newer market like the Cobalts, more money for them. I mean, on a Jbody fan side, yeah it sucks but from a business and marketing standpoint, it's a smart move. We aren't as popular as some of us want to think we are in the tuner scene and having our body platform discontinued doesn't help that either. I guess in some cases they would say "why beat a dead horse?".

Honestly, this thread should end...if they don't support us, hey, this wouldn't be the first company. If they do, that's super. No one here should get their hopes up for anything.

Lets face it guys, as far as performance/tuner scenes go, we get NO respect... Gotta get used to it.. of course, it could be A LOT worse..

Actually, it has way less to do about "respect" and more about money. You think all those companies make products for hondas because they respect their cars? Maybe some do but the majority know that they are popular and they are money makers.

Money makes the world go around, remember that.

I wasn't even talking about basic business/marketing practices, like what you're referring to.. I meant more on an every-aspect-of-performance sense.. From the street to the track to conversation.. People do a double take at me when I tell them I drive a turboed z24.. It really rips me up inside.. then you get limited support from the aftermarket, but as I said before, it could be a ton worse.. We have options, its just we have to work a little harder for success.. and in the end we turn heads and surprise the crap out of the disbelievers.. sometimes I think thats what really drives many of us to prove what we can do with what we have.. I guess my point is even though some companies might not give us mutual respect of those that bring in more money, and you can't really blame them, there is always another option and we should keep that in mind..

That's very true what you're saying.

I'm not turbo'd yet but I know when I am people will be suprised as hell when I pull times that they never saw on a sunfire. I mean, my friend bracket races at Englishtown and he drives a Cavalier. He actually has the fastest time for a Cavalier...15.3, yes, 15.3...and guess what...people are super suprised when they see that he ran that. People ask him questions like if he's boosted or rediculous questions like that because expect our cars to run 19 seconds in a 1/4 mile.

Honestly, I like being the underdog and doing something different because you get to suprise people, you stay original and no matter what you do, you can't dissapoint people because they didn't believe in you in the first place LOL I guess I also have to suprise people when I'm pulling great times on a stock auto tranny as well.

^ definitely man. I can't respect a 13 second v8 for instance when there are 12 second J's running around with more engineering put into their engines than most of the nay sayers could achieve in their entire life.

They said they were so close and pretty much had it all done. I dont care if they never update it again, as long as i can tune something instead of nothing.

It's the same theory as pissing off the guy who is taking your order at McDonalds...you don't want little suprises when you get the product.

Seriously guys, there is no need to bump this topic, when there is news of an update, I'm sure they will post. Bumping this will just continue the "are we there yet" curiousity of the JBO members and cause pointless discussion. Either you wait or don't want and move onto another way to fix your problem or tuner needs.

That's all I really have to say...

First off your wrong. There is plenty need to bump this topic. It is a topic that people want info on. So bump it to get it. This is a message forum for info. We have been waiting a very long time on this. We were past up when the GTO's came out, now yet again. They came on here and asked for our help (VIN numbers etc...) we did that. They infact said they were suiprised at how much response they got. I understand business part of things, but truely once they write out programing the Cobalt's will be a little easier, The computer systems are similar. If they are not going to support us at all, then tell us. Don't have us waiting not never do anything.

Yeah you're right...it would be nice if they did tell us that they aren't supporting us at the moment but if they don't, they don't. Like I said before, none of us should have been super excited, this isn't an overnight project and it wasn't a garauntee that they would do it. The reason I was saying not to bump this topic is because if there was truely some BIG progression in their research, we would have heard about it already. This has been bumped over and over...we are on page 10 now and have little information in between to what is going.

Instead of us pissing and moaning about a company not supporting us on a forum, you should go and find another way to fix whatever problem you are having with your computer because believe it or not, there is a way to change whatever you want, it's just the hard way. I think some of us are looking for the easy way out. Yeah, we don't have companies like Hondata to make plug and play everything but you can still change timing and change fuel consumption in different ways.

I think most of us realize this is not a overnight thing. This has been going on for a very long time. Why get pissed, mad, or upset?? We have put time into this as well. We have helped them (some people) with info they have needed, giving them VIN numbers, how many teeth are on the VSS sensor etc.. This is not like someone saying I think I know someone who might be able to help us and them not being able to. They have been on here and on there forum asking for info.

Next this only helping your shift points?? If you plan to go turbo this will allow you to tune your stock ECU as a standalone. This will allow you to do alot.

I'm not procrastimg my plans. My turbo car is currently down, so it does not matter. Now my N/A car I feel good gain nice power with the HP tuners software. A standalone is not worth it for that car.

I'm with the people who are complaining. It might not have ever been said they will make this for sure, but they did make it seem it would be.
I also feel this software would allow J's and other GM small cars to move up on the chain in the performance world. That whole respect thing that was mentioned. I don;t think you would see so many blown motors on boost or juice.

as a matter of fact all we "really" need is a way to get the binary reliably off the pcm, unencrypted, modified, re-encrypted, then reliably written back to it..

if this could be done (which it could but i and others do have day jobs) then tuner shops could alter stock tables and such to get the same functionality. this is the bread winner. the nice user interface and drag and drop is just fluff.. to me anyway.. ask any of us nerdly types on here. the true problem lies in the encryption..

what irks me is that gm wont release the encryption info that would be needed to deceode/recode the pcm... gm is who we should be mad at. for some reason HPT sucked some serious ^%$^%$ (or has to pay up big time so gm makes money) to get that algorithm. seems to me like in the end we are barking up the wrong tree. i totally understand not wanting warranteed cars to be able to tamper with the code but not almost 10 year old cars.. that should be released.

i wonder if we bi^&* and moan enough to gm they might care... prolly more likely than HPT

Sven you totally quarterloafed your computer..

This is not like someone saying I think I know someone who might be able to help us and them not being able to. They have been on here and on there forum asking for info.

Next this only helping your shift points?? If you plan to go turbo this will allow you to tune your stock ECU as a standalone. This will allow you to do alot.

Ok, I understand you guys have "helped" but it was never a garauntee from the beginning.

The only problem that I'm having is some of the people here are bitching, complaining and waiting on a problem that might never be made. If you need to do tuning THAT badly, look elsewhere instead of procrastinating your plans.

About the shift points, I said that would be the only thing to benefit ME. I already purchased a standalone fuel system...Megasquirt, for my turbo setup.

I wasn't saying you specifically but more torwards the people who are waiting for it "oh so badly". I mean, yes, it would help but it's not the end of the world if this product is not released. There are other companies that probably have a better solution or just as helpful way to do what you need, you just have to shell out a few more bucks to do so. The problem is everyone wants an easy way out. They want a programmer that plugs into your computer and you change A, B, C & D with a push of a button and you gain 50 HP. The world doesn't work like that. If you don't get what you want initially, find another way to get it.

Like I said, there are companies like Megasquirt that have what people need but people don't want to shell out the cash to buy one NOR figure out how it works.

Ok, yeah, you guys supplied a little info, worked their little "poll" of interest but that's all it was...it was research for them. If opportunity arrises elsewhere for them, they will more than likely take it for a bigger profit in the long run. If you owned a business, would you try and help the J-body platform that is discontinued and wasn't popular in the tuner scene when it was in production OR would you pick the new, flashier and depending on model...faster car that people are starting to jump all over and modify?

Really, I'm not trying to sound like a jerk to people but just offering some realistic insight. Not everything in life works out and not everything seems what it is. They might have shown interest but if in the long haul they don't show interest than oh well. We could be in alot less worse condition...we could be Dodge Shadow owners bitching about no aftermarket support LOL.

im just mad cause i feel like im being pulled along on a string. IF its shift points your after NJHK, just buy a shifttronic. Just plugs into the transmission port and gives you push button shifting. Cost about 500 bucks though. That is one of the reason i was wating for this program as well.

I just really wish HP tuners would come here and say no weve decided not to make the software. I really dont want them to come here and say something like its been put on hold till the cobalt is done.

Like I said earlier, yeah it would be nice but if they don't, they don't. I hate to sound like the big bad wolf but "s*** happends". Companies do flakey stuff. I would appreciate UPS calling me if my package isn't coming the date they originally scheduled it for but if they don't, pissing and whining won't help much.

Just come to the reality that we were either told "f*** off" or we were put on the "To Do" list for later on.

For the time being IF anyone is waiting for this product for fuel tuning or ignition tuning, look elsewhere and don't hold your breath, period.

Megasquirt isn't a company. It's the name of a fuel computer. The fact that it's taken off is cool, but it's because it was released freely that it's so popular (read no $$ involved). Before condemning people for wanting a solution that doesn't require many hours of understanding, ask yourself just how much you studied the digestive system before learning to eat.

as a matter of fact all we "really" need is a way to get the binary reliably off the pcm, unencrypted, modified, re-encrypted, then reliably written back to it..

J-rob, have you looked at the solution on the GMECM page? It's definitely "back door" but it has worked for others.

Quote:

if this could be done (which it could but i and others do have day jobs) then tuner shops could alter stock tables and such to get the same functionality.

You must realize that there's many, many hours involved in locating and correctly identifying tables, constants, and switches. I've looked through several OBDI disassembly's which had incorrectly commented code. Imagine the nightmare caused if OBDII gets corrupted!

This posted by Chris on the HPtuners forum:

"Waiting on release of USB hardware to begin beta. Beta will begin approx 3 weeks after new hardware begins shipping."

So they would have us beleive that this isn't dead yet!

Where is the GMECM page.....
Why don't we all pool like 5 bucks each and bribe some GM programmer to give us the encryption codes.
