96 to 95 PCM swap
Sunday, March 26, 2006 3:44 PM
Hey folks, I have a 96 fully built turbo car already, but I was kicking aroudn the idea of swaping in a HO or a W41 2.3, and building it with the 2.4 crank and boosting the &$%@ out of it instead of going anymore forward with my 2.4. I was wondering how hard the swap is and if all of the gauge wiring and all of taht crap is the same. I have searched but couldnt find anything but I am sure taht some1 has done this as we all know the 95 pcm can be chipped!!! But anyway, I just hope that this is a mere take out 2.4 and 96 pcm, put in built 2.3 and 95 pcm and done. Please let me hear some insight!! Thanks people.

You can run your 2.4 with a 2.3 ecm no problem. But since your 2.4 is already boosted, I'll say from experience, to stick with the 2.4. There's NO manifold for the 2.3 turbo. You have to build one yourself. Then the engine will most likely need to be rebuild or at least the head will need to be changed with the head gasket.

It's up to you but turboing a 2.3 is a P I T A. You 2.4 is already turbo so just build a 2.4 and turn up the boost.

95 OBDI
96 OBDII
Engines where setup differently to account for the new sensors.

2.4 is already built!! lol....I am just obsessed with the 2.5 stroker. I will more than likely buy a 95 cavalier z24 5sp and built taht motor n/a. Since the 95 cavy motors arent w41 or HO, if I put one of those motors in the car, do they sell chips to run them, or do they keep the same PCM, I am by no means a 2.3 guru, but they interest me a hell of a lot. Considering I will be building the motor in the first place, I could possibly keep the motor, but just put a 086 head on the built motor, then just get a chip for the PCM. Now I just need to get the funds to buy a 95 z24...lol....they arent the easiest things to find anyway...taht is why I think it would be easier to get a 96 and do the PCM swap, u see 96 z24's all over the place.

yes they make chips for them and yes the stock 95 pcm will run any of the quad engines...the only place i know of though that sells chips for the 95 pcm is MANTAPART...yup..you guessed it...cost ya about 250 and who knows what kinda wait...even if they are worth it

That's not true. Actually we're working on a programable solution for the 95 pcm right now. Moates.net sells a general programmer that when used with RT Tuner can tune any chip settings in the ECU.

Did you need a 95 ecu, i can probably find you one. Or at least, help you tune your Q4. Email me kyanox@yahoo.com for details.

But i would like to learn more on that topic....
thanx

Again, mantapart can send you a chip for the HO, but it's not really a tuned ECU file. What I'm doing with moates.net is tuning cars using a programmer and datalogger with realtime logging. Essentially, i can monitor and log every single parameter in my ecu, and adjust it accordingly to reach the IDEAL settings.

I can even use wideband o2 to get my settings locked in.

So this DOES work for a 95 sunfire? I have a 95, and i am going turbo soon. My plan was to use megasquirt. Would this work well enough? will it work with a 2 bar or 3 bar map sensor?
