Just reset the computer.
Thursday, October 27, 2005 2:10 PM
As the title says I reset the computer a little while ago and wow what a difference. I have had the ps header on my car for about 2000 miles and I felt the power right after the install. Now it feels much quicker and sounds louder to me. I had never reset the computer after any of my mods, I really didn't think I needed to but now, I will do it each time I change something.

wow, i didnt know that. makes sense though...so it recalibrates after its reconnected and tries to compensate the air/fuel ratio?

i need to try this

basically it resets itself to stock, recalibrates, and adjusts for your mods better. it's best to reset it, start the car, then go drive it hard for a little while.

Does ahvieng the battery dead for 4 months count as resetting it haha. j/k Yeah resetting the computer helps a lot. MY ass dyno might be not used to my car but it does feel liek it pulls harder since the last time i drove it.

how excatly does it change a recalabrate it self? The car runs off of fixed variables given it to it by its varoius sensors. the A/F is designated by real time data stream to it threw sensors. I am pretty sure that theres no preset data that gets entered in to its tables. when you put on a mod the car doesnt run an A/F of itself before that mod. the car wants a 14.7 at all times. regardless of whats on it.

The computer is constantly changing the fuel mixture in real time, it doens't just find the best operating condition and leave it alone.
Its all in your mind .. but whatever works for you.
probably letting the car cool off for 10 minutes lets it have a little more power until its hot again.. ??

the only way your gonna notice a diff in power is if your mod had something to do with any electrical systems, ie t/b, stupid chips, stuff like that......not gonna really notice it with just a cai and exhaust, but get into the bigger things like above and you will notice it by reseting the comp

I personally reset my battery after I got all my recent stuff done felt like the car liked the fact that I did that. besides. when you install stuff on your pc it asks you to restart either way so why shouldn't it work for a car?

werd. consider resetting the car PCM like rearranging the registry and doing a defrag

I better find the page in my GM service manual that talks about learning driving style....

Spotabee's right. Just do it.

Mind you... I take out the PCM fuse. Same effect.

does someone want to explain what the hell this does. all your pcm does is traslate your sensors signals. it does not take readings when you start. the car up for the first time. its all real time. so once again can some one please explain what this does.

What is happening here is when you reset the computor it returns itself to the default settings. LTFT and STFT are rest back to what was set by the manufacturer. For those that dont know what LTFT and STFT it is long term fuel trim and short term fuel trim. As the vehicle is moving down the road STFT is constantly changing to compensate for the the amount of fuel needed. When STFT can no longer compensate for fuel needs LTFT is set to that amount and STFT is set back to zero to compensate for the next needs.

Lenko- thats what the manual is meaning by learning the driving style of the driver.

When you dont reset the computor the most power may never come out of a mod or if it does it may do it in a long time if it realizes the differences in airflow. It may not at all because it is a speed dencity system meaning it utalizes calculation of airflow set into the computor based on vacuum picked up by the map sensor and the various other sensors. I hope this help to shed some light onto the subject i appologize for the spelling and grammar, its late and im tired.
