I'm currently installing a AEM EMS on my car(should be finished this week). So to rectify some things :
-AEM EMS is a standalone, I don't have the stock ECU anymore.
-You can program each and every sensor, if you have the data on how they work (GM manual has them), you can program them and the AEM EMS will use them (I'm using stock crank, cam, GM 3 bar MAP, coolant temp, ... ).
-Its a b*tch to install (need to know someone that has done the AEM class to program it for a custom application).
-The biggest problem we have right now is the cluster. Since stock every sensor signal goes in the ECU and gets transformed to serial Data, then goes to the cluster. The AEM EMS cannot do that.
The biggest advantages is that you can program everything in it : 3D fuel MAP, timing of ignition, boost control, kock detection, turbo timer, ...
Anyway, once its up and runnig i'll let you guys know how it does !!
luc is your engine done? ive been waiting to see your final product
R.I.P. Brian Klocke, you will never be forgotten
Should be done soon ! We had a major set-back a 2 months ago, the AEM EMS blew. We sent it to AEM and it was their product that was defective (they had over 50 AEM EMS come back with the same problem). It took them 2 months to get a new one that did not have the same problem as the one before. Now that we have it, we are rechecking everything on the wiring side and the car should be done this week. We will run at 10 psi only at first to get all the bugs out, then it will be 16 and 24 psi. I'll make a post about it when its done !
No, the megasquirt can't do that, you are thinking of the megasquirt & spark, which is two computers that work together basically. Even then I still think you need to use the stock ecu to drive your cluster, and if you have an auto tranny, that too.
MS AND MS&SPARK is just a different program put on to a regular MS ,They use the same computer.
And yes ,it can be used as a full sand alone on most
cars, the megasquirt and spark code just has to be used.
