Whats the point of the AFR commander on hpt?

Is it just a narrowband o2 gauge? For those without a wideband?

You mean the commanded AFR?

What do you mean "afr commander"? Never seen anything remotely like that...

Commanded AFR, which is only viewable in the scanner as the engine is running, is the target AFR that the ECU is trying to reach. This PID lets you view what the ECU is trying to get out of the fuel system. Using this and a wideband, you can determine the AFR Error %, which will help you tune the VE table to hit your desired AFR.

The only place in the ECU where you can enter a target AFR is in the PE AFR vs RPM table. This will change the target AFR, but the ECU can't hit that target AFR if the VE table is off.

so changing the commanded afr in PE AFR vs RPM will change the A/F's during cuirse and idle as well?

I assumed, because of its location and name that it would only affect the A/F's under PE which is over the set RPM and Throttle Position....

How are you guys going about tuning the VE tables? For the 3800 since I have a MAP sensor I just unplug it, set the PE to 100% (effectivly dissabling it), cope the bad fuel table to the good fuel table and set timing back to stock. I go out for a 30 min drive and then export my current VE table. I have a spreadsheet that I use to input my current VE table, my scan log and it will calculate the new VE table for me. I then upload the new VE table and start all over. Usally take 3-4 tunes like this before the peaks and valley's level themself out. Just wondering how you guys are going about it.

Well, its pretty much the same process with the MAP sensor plugged in. In non-s/c cars the VE table is RPM and TPS based, in cars with the s/c flash it is MAP and RPM based. So for both, we can leave (or in the case of the s/c) must leave the MAP plugged in.

We don't disable the fuel trims (well, can't disable the fuel trims yet), and since we tune PE with the VE table, we don't disable PE.

Cool, I was just wondering. I think I might pick up an HPtuner and start playing with my friends cars. I did mean that I unplug the MAF and based my logs off of MAP and RPM. At the same time I cross reference my MAP and TP% to see when I enter boost so I can set my PE accordingly. Really a VE tune is only for the base fulling and since I have no wide band yet I don't want PE skewing my base fuel numbers, @!#$ty thing is I can't tuning the upper part of the VE table. Once I get a wideband I will start a VE tune with PE enabled and shoot for the actual A/F ratio I want to see but for now I just go off the O2 values and only tune the lower part of the table.

You can disable the fuel trims by setting the closed loop enable temperature really high.
