Question about HPTuners and Wideband...
Sunday, September 10, 2006 3:36 PM
If i were to buy the basic hptuners with a wideband could i accomplish the same results as if i were to buy an advanced Hptuners? The reason i ask, is if i were to buy the basic and accomplish the same goal (tuning the car) why need the advanced? Is there something specific that the advanced does to accomplish this goal? Let me know your imputs......thanks

You can, but it takes a LOT more work. The basic version does not allow you to take the input from the wideband and graph it with the other sensors. The enhanced version takes the input from the wideband and graphs it along with the other sensors, allowing you to make charts that tell you exactly how far your a/f ratio is off in a particular cell, it makes things insanely easier. Plus you get the other cool feature of being able to log without a laptop in your car, since a lot of tracks won't allow you to have one while making a pass.

Once again, Shifted, you're the man, I see in your profile that you have a AEM UEGO gauge, is it worth the money? I was planning on buying the same one.

If i were say have just HP Tuners and the Wideband O2 and Gauge, would i need the AEM UGEO Controller as well, or does HPTuners already do that? Also, would i still need the stock O2 Sensor?

you need your stock o2 sensor... your ecu uses that to your a/f's... the stock ecu does not see the wideband...

AEM Wideband has a controller built-in, it has a 5v output.... hptuners can read any linear signal i think.... gunna have to get a second opinion on that one... 5v definitely works... but i dont know if you can do anything else as long as it is linear.... idk...

so you can't read a/f on hp tuners without a wideband?

No. You can read the O2 sensor mV, but that really doesn't tell you anything.

You can get a readout from the stock narrowband sensor but it ain't worth a @!#$ when tuning. It's only purpose is to help get the PCM to 14.7:1 AFR. This being the goal it jumps from rich to lean constantly.
