Will I need to tune right away for this setup?
Friday, September 22, 2006 7:09 AM
Ok, my car will be finished in a few weeks. and i want to put it on the road for a couple weeks to work bugs and such out. untill it starts snowing. " damn Buffalo, NY weather

So my question is.. will i be safe with no tunning software with the following.
2.4 / 5spd

Ported/Polished Head
270 Injectors
JBP Stage 2 Cams
Eagle Rods
Wieso Pistions
2.3 Intake Mani
58mm TB
Spec 3 Clutch
Fidanza Flywheel

I also have nitrous. But im not going to run it till i get tuned Next spring.

But my question is now. will i be safe giving it a lil beat for a couple weeks with no tune? Figured i would be safe but wanted to ask to make sure as i have alot of $ invested in my sunfire

Thanks

The only way to know if it's safe is to log air fuel ratios with a wideband. If it's too lean under power, then it's not safe. Anybody who tells you it's safe or not, is just guessing, but my guess would be you'll be fine with those big injectors. Sounds like you spent too much $$ to guess though.

I agree with above. I also think you will be more than safe as long as you do not juice it, and normal driving.

270cc injectors are only 18cc more than stock, your computer should be able to handle that or you could knock back a pound or two of fuel pressure

Yea, and the 2.3 mani with the JBP cams will help out supplying more air to the motor, i think you'd be fine, but i also agree, make sure it's not running too lean, or kabooie! There went your money and motor...

yes. you should.

that should make me just as right as anyone telling you that you should not tune right away because no one knows definitively until you get the means of monitoring what is going on in the engine...

becareful and good luck!

Thanks for your replies. Just figured id ask 1st.. I wont spray till tune.. Anyone in the Buffalo , NY Area or withen like 100 miles ago willing to tuner my car if i drive it there? I dont have HP tuners yet and wont get till next spring. so figured i could maybe get someone with credits to tune my car for some $..

1 last question.

MY Head was ported/polished exhaust site alot and matched to my gasket and header and my stage 2 JBP cams.

How should the increase be just from the cams? never been in a sunfire or cavalier with stage 2 JBP cams.. just the 2.3 secret cams
