Update:

I will be implementing the J1979 communications protocol, this ECU should be compatible with stock cluster, bcm, retain original mileage, and I'm still looking into the legality of doing the OBD emissions tests. It will also use the stock MIL for malfunction indication and respond with correct data in PID's, so you should be able to log data, scan, and clear codes with any OBD-2 compatible scanner.

so this will replace the BCM?

this is so going to rock. I hope you can get the OBD-II compliance down.

No, not replace the BCM, but it will talk to it and run the cluster, along with talk to the OBD port.

Being OBD-2 complaint has nothing to do with being legal....
Just say it is for off road use only...... all blame will be off of you.....and still offer OBD2 complaint......

So if I buy it, you can help me install and tune it, right shifted?
Re: Coming soon...

yeah, off road use only would work I guess. can the emissions place tell if its a GM ECU or not? or do they just query it for codes?

hell, I'd be willing to just pull it and put in my stock ECU just to go through emissions.

It should respond exactly the same way your stock ECU does during an emissions test, I'll even have it so it will report back the VIN...

This is most excellent I guess I'll be changing from HPT when/if this becomes available.

this is good and all, but what about us that dont have a cat?

is there a "mode" for "off road use only" that the MIL wont be on with things like CPS not being there ( HO cams) cat, and other things?

Will there be support for "turning off" MIL triggers like you can in HPT? - Also, possibly without the additional code the ECU send out when you do this with HPT?

now is this for only for OBO1 or OBOII and will it work for 2.4 and 2.3 also 2.2?

Chris-

Of course the OBD-II emissions tests will only be for test purposes, and will report back what you tell it to, and ignore what you want it to

Josh-
Yes, the MIL triggers will only be for features you want, obviously there are some you won't be able to turn off, like errors with the ECU itself, critical sensor errors, etc.

Ryan-
Should work with any engine.

... will that "hinder" your ability to get a CARB EO for it?

Yeah, it probably would. I don't think I'd pursue the CARB rating though, getting it through CARB is a long, expensive process.

Very nice work, looks like it's gonna be great. Can't wait to see the results. I saw earlier in the thread you said you weren't going to be giving the source code out freely...but is there any way I could see it? I've done plenty with C and enough with assembly to recognize what's going on. Well, good luck!

I'm in for this. Forget HPT, I'd rather support someone local to me anyways.

If you want to see where I am deriving a lot of the source code from, go to http://www.megasquirt.info . I'm going to optimize and expand on that system. I will share some of the algorithms, but not the full source.

just a quick question Shifted... thought about this yesterday.

is there anyway that your ECU could work with either the 7x or the 58x crank position sensor? this would help the guys out that wanna switch to the 2.0 or 2.4 Eco motor.

Re: Coming soon...

Yeah, thats why the processor needs to be fast, 55Mhz is what I'm looking at right now. I know I can pick up the 7x signal, the 58x is going to be a challenge, but I think I can grab it.
