strange problem...

Hi everyone, i'm in front of a big problem! i've tryed few thing and i havent resolve the problem yet! Here is my setup to help you out

-8.9CR wiseco piston
-eagle rod
-t3\t04b garrete, ar 60\.48 stage 3 compressor and 63 trim
-2bar map sensor
-Ngk LTR7 gapped at .30
-2.5 downpipe then drop to 2.25 after the flexible
-38mm external wastegate with downpipe inside of the exhaust
-tuned at 11.9
-14.5 psi

ok here is the problem! when i accelerate normaly no problem everything is fine, then when in WOT, very nice pull until i reach the high rev like 5500 +, now there is a sound like if the car dont want to go higher, if i hold WOT it will go hihger rpm but very very slowly and with a strange sound like if the car where at speed limiter

i tryed to add a ground from coil pack to body and gapp plug at 0.30 instead of 0.36, still havent resolve the problem

any idée guys???

Please note that i'm a french canadian, i tryed the best i can to explain my problem,

Do you have a wideband air/fuel gauge?

yes i got a wideband and everything is fine until i reach to rpm, sometimes it bakfire then show me any random number because of backfire if hold too long in high rev

Spark blow out? Detonation?

are you doing any datalogging?

yes i've done few datalogging with hptuner, when comming around thos rpm the rpm go higher, then drop some rpm ( 50rpm) go higher again then drop some rpm, like having a sort of cut off, if i look on my spark table i'm only with 15 degree a WOT at thos rpm

And yes for spark detonation it appear sometime (but not all the time) when i hold then gaz WOT at those high rev, it cut then boom backfire while WOT

I would try retard the timing one more degree. Take it to 14.

I am also not a fan of using a 2bar. I find it much easier to tune with a one bar. (simply my opinion)
You will only need to tune the last row in the table. You are either in boost or not.

It also could be spark blow out. Make sure your plugs are turned away from the intake. It helps with blow out.

Also look closely at your logs. The more I read your posts it sounds like you are spraying too much fuel.

What size injectors are you using. What PSI of fuel? What fuel pump are you using?

sounds like what mine is doing except for the BOOM you said. Mine sounds like its hitting the rev limiter. I think 15 degress of timing is fine. Im running 20 psi and have that with zero knock well VERY low knock. Everyone told me spark blow out which i think it is. Gap your plugs lower and let me know. I haven't had a chance to do mine yet. Also, does your build consist of better valve springs? If not why? Best luck.

also i may add information on my problem! sometime when i touch the 5800-6000rpm (doesent want to go higher) i shift the next gear at WOT and beeeuuuuu nothing append.....any idea with these new clue?

It is really sounding like a fueling issue to me. Most likely too much.

i think i founded part of the problem! could all this can happen (all this up and down , sometime it wont go higher , sometime it will) could all this happen if an alternator is scrap??? i think mine just broke this evening...i was cruising when my headlight stop lighting and my cluster light were almost OFF, and it smell very strange over my alternator.... like if it has burned.... i have one spare.. i'll try to change it tomorrow if a got a second... it's very strange... light are very weak but the car start.. look's like the batterie is weak too if the alternator doesnt charge it..

It could if your not getting enough power for good spark. Replace it and see. Get some logs with the wideband in HPT and post it up. what is your AFR's when it happens? Any knock retard?

i change it this morning, still same problem but this time it's better than before!! car run smoother!! and my lights work

for the hptuner log i cannot datalogg with the wideband! i have a AEM UEGO and when plugging to my laptop the number show are from 11.97 to 13.00 approximately and never give me right info! even if i change anything from air fuel

When are you getting 13.0's? RPM wise? Do you have HPT Pro?

i have hpt pro! and any rpm the wideband doesnt show any good info in my hpt! on the gage No Problem but in the screen the number given doesnt make any sense! my air fuel is good until i reach 5500rpm, after that start to do up and down air fuel then do like a sort of cut off!

today i tryed few things! first i tryed a 13 psi spring with no success ! also i added a good ground from coil pack to body ! i change my TPS, alternator, plug are gapped at .30 and they are NGK LTR7

coil pack??? tuning??? timin is 14 degree at 6000rpm and 14 at 5800 also

Fuel pump???? i got a walbro no problem with it but maybe it could be a potential possibility... ECM ????? another posibility.... battery?? please help me guys! i tryed few thing and drop a lot of money since the problem come and now success

What is the weather like where you live?? Sounds like your fuel is off. This is a boosted ecotec right. I know when we tuned my eco you have to have the fuel level as possible. What works best for my eco is to run a 11.9 till about 5000rpm and let the air/fuel clime 12.0 12.2 12.3 At 6700 red line. If the air/fuel ran 11.8 11.9 acrossed the board al of a sudden go 11.6 or 11.5 if would make a groan noise and slow down and the engine light would flash for misfire. Just a thought...

4 things:

1 - check your grounds for your wideband. Make sure they are good.
2 - If there is a system ground wire, ground it to EIO 5 on the HPT box
3 - You need to setup a custom PID with a matching afr variance. If your gauge goes from 7 afr to 22 afr then you need to tell the PID that this is the variance otherwise it will be way off. You really should setup your wideband controller with the software that came with it to a smaller variance, and set the reporting speed to 1/6 for better accuracy.
4 - You need to set the "ground offset" for this custom PID since ground interference gets in the way.

All of this info is available on the HPT forums under the Advanced EIO heading. If you do all that and ensure the gauge is calibrated your readings from your wideband will exactly match the readings on your HPTuners PID. This is the best way to tune... an accurate wideband input is paramount.

I just went though this process myself in the last 2 days with my car... it's a bit frustrating but quite rewarding.

As mentioned bring the spark back a degree or two... also are you sure the car is achieving the commanded timing advance at that psi at that rpm? Check... my HPT was screwing me around for a while not doing that I told it.... I commanded 15 degrees advance at 21 psi and the damn thing hit 31 degrees...

I don't think it's overfueled because if it was you'd see it with your own eyes on the wideband... and the car would misfire and fall on its face needing the injectors to be "cleaned" with boost.... a process I do not cherish going through personally.

In fact a commanded 11.9:1 afr is a bit lean for that kind of boost... drop it down to 11.6 - 11.7:1.

Good luck with your problem, just thought I'd post up that advice so you can get your wideband correlating properly with HPTuners for a better tune.

1- all ground are good!
2- i use pin 1 for my wideband signal on hptbox, and pin 5 for ground
3-no software cam with my aem uego gage and it is brand new, everytime is start the car it's auto calibrate, in the aem uego manual it's says no need to calibrate...
4- ?????

and i verify my timing advance at thos rpm, 13-13.5

I am getting convinced that your issue is that 2 bar map. Put the stock one bar back in and tune again.

In my version of HPT when I connected my wideband and added the PID to the config file it let me choose the exact Wideband I had. It then configured it for me. The only other thing I had to do is tell it what slot I put it on. Which was 1 and 5 for the ground just like yours.

I had no issues at all.

One issue you may be having is that the ground wire that goes from pin 5 on the HPT I/O MUST go to the same grounding point as the AEM gauge's ground goes to.
