how come when i call dealers the part numbers are the same for a 1995 2.2 ECM?

but yet people say there different from manual to auto..

do i really need to get a different ECM? and how can i tell if the one i get is right?

Auto/Manual ECU/PCM's are the same, its the programming thats different. If you buy a dealer ECU, it comes blank (for all intensive purposes), and they put the appropriate CAL on it so your car runs.

you can just changed the E-prom if you think you have a problem with your ECM. You have OBDI so you can change it.

okay,

i called another GM dealer...got it all sorted out and explained...

i can just get my PCM flashed...and supposively NAPA can do it without having the car there...

but what if NAPA cant, and i put my tranny in and all, would it hurt to plug my PCM in until i get to the dealer? running?

if you have a blank PCM the car won't run. won't start. won't do anything.

hmmmm... well for one your idle will be incorrect. for two, you won't be able to get the key out of the ignition because it will be expecting the car to be in PARK. i'm sure there are others

So you're saying the shift interlock is controlled by the ECM? Thats the first I've ever heard of a computer controlled ignition switch.
