HPT users -- How well is it working for you?
Friday, June 23, 2006 6:18 AM
I'm curious to see how well the program is working for everyone. I'm particularly wonding how the program is working for all-motor applications. LD9, LN2, Ecotec, doesn't matter. I'd jsut like a little input t osee how big of a difference the tuning really makes.

im curious as to if its worth to purchase if u have just a few bolt ons, such as intake and exhaust

i personally would not have bought it if i were not turbo... i heard from other posts that for n/a applications you can use it to change your timing and see some gains, if you have an auto tranny, you can change shift points and pressures...

im turbo, so i use it to add fuel under boost, control timing, auto tranny stuff, and logging, great buy!

Yeah, the last post regarding this from what I gathered, nobody with a stock engine has put the program to the test on a dyno. Now, my engine isn't completely stock, but it's no monster by any stretch. I've done a few things here and there but it's mainly a stock engine. It's common knowledge that our engines, no matter what engine we have, are not tuned for performance right off the assembly line. They're tuned for economy and reliability and all that jazz, which likely means there's more there that just needs to be unlocked. The question is how much and I was hoping someone had already tried to find out.

well i just did a little "stage 1" tune to my sunfire. pushed my rev limiter back to 7k rpms lowered my PE by a lot....few other things but forget what i did. alls i know is i rev'd it past 6700 rpms...i'm too scared to push it 7k with out stronger valve train.

Wise decision not revving that high. I have a feeling the valves and everything attached to them thank you.

2000 Cavalier 2.4 LD9 with getrag trans.

Here are the issues I have so far:
Rev limiters won't go away (even with fuel cut AND the ramp values changed).
Speed limiter won't go away.
I'm seeing phantom Class 2 codes on the HPT scanner that cannot be seen on any other scanner that I have at my disposal (www.obd-2.com and a tech 2).

Here's what works so far:
Rear O2 sim has been completely disabled.
Injector constant has been reworked for 42lb/hr Ford green tops.

Needless to say, I'm definitely NOT happy until the major issues above magically start working for me...

I love my HP Tuners. I have a Rk sport intake crank pulley and a 2800 stall. I think the car really woke the F up. Its super fun to drive on a dailybasis. It had a @!#$ty problem shifting in the city ALL the time before the stall it couldnt decide between 3-4th around 30-35ish. Speed limiters gone fuel/timing is all adjusted. It was unreal how lean the car ran with adding that intake on the car. the LTFTs were at -28. Its soooooooo worth the money. If your car isnt tuned it runs like complete ass and you dont get the acutall horse power out of the car that you should be. I would love to put a set of cams in the car. I have a 2002 z28 also and use hp tuners on there. Its a life saver on that car for sure. Money is the issue for playing with the cavi tho. I would like to do the GM S/C down the road but a set of cams could be fun with the capibility to be able to tune the car. You could get some pretty nasty cams and not have to worry about drivablitity.

When i get HPtuners im doing my car as well as my brothers (Rascal) 03 Sunfire with header, thermal research exhaust, AEM cold air intake. Ill get him to do a baseline dyno, then see how much we can get outta it.

On another note, can we disable the rear 02 sim on the 02-05 Ecotecs as well? Just curious because im completely redoing my exhaust with a header, cat, and Thermal exhaust.. If i can disable the rear 02 ill just hollow out the cat (incase they look under my car at emmisions), Then put the Wideband 02 sensor on the header, and the first 02sensor on the hollow cat.

I like it after brian (speedracer) and ron (shifted) tuned it a bit for me. Theres a lot more power and im seeing some where of the range of 30 - 35 degrees advance timing with no knock on a mix of like 2 gallons of 89 oct gas with the rest of a full tank being 92 oct. so once i get a full tank of 93 oct in there im well in the safe zone of no knock. once i get a decent income i will for sure get hpt. Im a strong and firm believer in its ability
