Body kit or No? Need opinions...
Sunday, December 04, 2011 11:40 AM
Alrighty then!
I have a little 2000 Cavalier.
It's got a nice looking body kit on it.
THE ONLY PROBLEM IS
A kid put the darn thing on the car before I got it....
The hood moves when wind catches it when I drive, (could pin it correctly and paint it and it would be fine..)
The front bumper needs quite a bit of fiberglass work (probably easier to replace)
The rear bumper has some dips in it right where it meets the trunk? (fiberglass repair)
And the side skirts feel flimsy as crap.

Now I can get this all fixed and painted, but do you think I should just go back to stock and lower the car a little?
Or i can convert over to the z24 little stock look
Or do you think I should just get it all fixed and stick with my look?
I'm just looking for others opinions on what might look good.

I do plan on haveing dents removed and another coat of paint thrown over it. With clear thrown on also. (thrown=sprayed) Haha

I plan on dumping at least 7-12 thousand into this car over the next 3 years. It's my little project unless I find something worth more my time. But this is funner :]

is that whole car done in rattle-can?

I have a thing for a properly kited cars. So... I'd say keep it kitted if the kit itself was good. Seeing as it's fiber glass and just sounds badly installed I'd rather put the Z-24 kit on it.

I miss my Cavalier, even if it made 100 hp on a cold day and had more suspension then it deserved.

No, the whole car isn't rattle can.
It's actually pretty nice.
It's a really dark green with kinda a speckle to it?
The hood was cheap carbon fiber but he said it has bad heat damage?
Haha no idea. Just a new project. I've owned 2 cavaliers before this.

But the boy before used rattle can to try to touch up places.
And there was a tad bit of over spray here and there...
You can tell.....
Haha

I'd loose the blitz front and get a better looking one.

If the sides n rear are a real type j they are urethane, mostlikly you can just simply add some bracing to the sides to stiffen and better secure. the rear its posible the kid removed the foam pad there for resulting in the sag n wave. the hood looks like the resin coat is long gone on that hood.id say paint the hood fix and or replace the front and what i mentioned before. the hood shake i wonder if was a fake scoop and he just cut a hole in it. i have ram air on our cavs and no shake.

Na, I like my little projects.. Haha
I'm going to look into the hood.
The latch may be a little loose, I'm pretty sure its not though.
Otherwise, I'll throw a correct set of pins in it, to help secure it.

The front
I may just replace. Tomorrow I'll post up an idea I was looking at.

that hood with that kit dont match, but do what some of us are doing and go hood pins, remove the cable, and just have pivoting arm very fast and simple

The hood and front bumper have to go. But those side skirts, while rice, dont look all that bad. Why do I call them rice if they look good? Those huge vents are non-functional.

Also, dumping 7-12 grand, I hope that thing already has a ld9 and not an ln2, because if you really are that masochistic in your love of cavaliers you should start with the best base you can.

I kinda overdid it with what I said I plan to put into the car.
I just want to fix up the body
All dents will be removed and then painting the same color over the current to make it look fresh.

I was thinking of dropping a different motor into the car and tranny.
Either 3800 series motor
Or the 4.3 vortec
This car is my daily driver other than my truck.
But for right now, the 2.2 is fine while fixing the body.

I have bought a new hood for it.
And the bumper, what would you suggest?
Post a link for me?
I bought a rk sport spoiler for it from a friend. Its adjustable an all. Looks good
I've had it painted to match the car.
I can post a picture when I install it.

Also, looking to replace the wheels.
These 18 inch konigs aren't my favorite
Any suggestions on wheels? Link?
I wanna keep with 18s because I just put 4 new tires on Today for winter.

I just have a lot of little things here and there that I want to do to the car.
Motor wise. Nothing will be done until the body is done.
It runs and drives great now

Also, what's your alls opinions on chips?
I've heard stories about chipping other cars but nothing on a cavalier?

ummmm so you put a "Paul Walker spoier" on there? may I ask why? and the hood I would just sell if you got a new one, if you were closer I would of bought it for the new project lol , and the mirrors dont look right maybe its my dislike for them but still, for ideas on the kits look at this link your kits.... and the rims are fine I would just go with a different color they match the car nicely. that like is sunfires but gives you another outlook to see

I always wanted to see that bumper refinished without the wack skirts on it. Take those " splitter" style skirts off the front bumper re-fiberglass it to make it smooth and THAT would look wicked!

That would be pretty cool. I'd have to have someone glass it though, seeing as I've done nothing but make a sub box out of fiberglass... But yeah!! That would be pretty cool I think. I'll have to find someone that would glass it for me.

I've been leaning a little more towards the body kit style. And I've been reading a lot on the forums
But yeah... I've done a little to the car since this last post of mine...
I threw some primer on the hood and pinned it correctly. So It doesn't bounce or anything anymore.
I added some support to the driverside skirt to keep it from flexing.
I've tinted the tail lights and removed the nasty spoiler. Haha
New tires and fart can replacement will be done monday.

i would take all that off, put it in the classifides and craigslist and sell it for what you can, get a factory style hood, bumper w/fogs, side skirts and rear bumper and add ww lips then paint and lower it. body kits are kinda outdated now IMO. the rims look nice! either way post up what you get done!
