16757100 on the backing piece (same number on the Chevy wheel) BUT there's also a second number on the rubber piece which is 16757949... might be the number?

Here's the thread:

That makes me wonder if we need 2 connectors, one for each mirror or just 1 just for the switch. Since I have the switch, I'll order 2 and see what's up with them. I got my mirrors out and noticed that they each have a white wire connector 12" from the mirror. Because mine are only power mirrors & not power folding, they only have 3 wires coming out. Coming out of the mirrors they are white, black & red. After the connector on one side has yellow, white & green, and the other has brown/white, blue/white, & red/white. There are no part numbers on the wire connectors, so I'm not sure if they are the same ones. They are able to hold 7 wires total. I'll keep everyone posted when I get the connectors from GM Parts Direct.

here's a little question about the steering wheel if anyone happens to know...
will the leather toyota wheel work in a 2003 model if a pre-03 airbag is used? or will the older style bag set off some warning light or throw a code?
seems like most if not all answers will be theory-based, but there are plenty of smart folks in on this post, so figured i'd ask the experts.

Steve, you getting an '03?

All I know is the airbags were changed somehow from 96 & 97 to 98 & 99 to 2000. 2000 was the first year of reduced-deployment airbags (I think). I don't know if they changed again for 01, 02 or 03. Isn't there side airbags in the 03 models?

You'd have to check with GM. If they're different.. you could always swap in the airbag module under the passenger seat with a 2002 or whatever model. I think the wiring is the same 2000+. I know 95 was different tho.. we ran into that with Nate's 95 to 01 swap.

well, john, i'm considering it. finding the z24 i want is proving quite tough, and i really can't justify flying/driving all the way to the canadian border to pick up c.t's car...heheh
so whether or not the older wheel and airbag would work would actually be a selling point to me.
add the fact that all of these toyota parts i have would still fit, and we have a winner! just a few details i'd want to get ironed out first as far as headlights, 1/4 panels and the like.
is it my imagination, or do the very rear corners of the '03 1/4 panels curve out a little bit to meet that rear bumper? and could they be bent back into the "right" place to better fit with a different bumper? that sort of thing...
needless to say, i have even more research to do...feh.

It's not your imagination.. the rear inserts do curve out to meet the bumper... they're part of it on 2000+ models... where it was a separate piece (i believe) on 95-99 models. You can get the 95-99 ones to put a different bumper on there tho. The sheet metal is still identical from 95 right up to 2003.

the part under the tail lens looks to part of the bumper , so if you remeove the bumper those pieces will go with it

the mirrors and tails and whatnot are pricey because, well..
they're gm parts, not apc or somesuch.
for example, you can get your apc tail lights for what, $150 new, maybe?
go up to your local parts desk and ask for a price for a full set of your tail lights...they are not cheap! my dealer quoted "about $550(US)" for a full set of cav tails.
so, really, i like to think of the toyota parts as being discounted stock parts. of course, it helps that i get some used from mr. lenko there, and some others from gmpartsdirect.com
tail light part numbers can be found in several threads of this forum. i don't have the numbers offhand, but the search function should find plenty of results for "toyota tails"...

and the curvy part i was referring to earlier isn't the one attached to the bumpers...it's the sheetmetal just to the outsides of that bumper extension. i need to investigate further, even though i want a '99...lol

Ok Steve then you are imagining things the sheet metal on the J-body is unchanged since 95. The bumpers and lights are the only things that GM keeps playing around with.
