LED Tail light install
Saturday, October 23, 2004 8:30 PM
A few weeks ago, I posted a question here about trying to get my LED tail lights to blink at the regular rate instead of really fast so i didn't look like a ricer. Nobody was really positive on how to do this, but I got some clues from some members here. I ended up figuring it all out, and when I did my install I took pictures.

I also wrote a little how to, which I wanted you guys to check out.

I wanted to get your opinions, Is there enough information here?

Should there be a wiring diagram, (even though its so simple!)

Is there any information that you have questions about on this install?

(sorry about the bad pictures by the way, I don't recommend the Panasonic DSnap camera, it sucks)

LED Install on NewEnglandCustoms.com

Thanks in advance for the input.
Nice job on getting them to work. How much were those resistors? Also, do your LEDs dim, and how is your output?
They are a little brighter, and they come on so much quicker, they are instant on, and instant off, they don't fad in and out like the old bulbs do, so it looks cool

The resistors were $15 bucks, and the bulbs were $15 bucks.

Its worth it in my opinion, did you read the fact about LEDS giving the person behind you an extra car length of stopping distance because you have LED brake lights?
excellent guide, about time someone did that, of coure i have a few questions.

-when you mounted youre load resistors, behind the carpet in the trunk, does it not get so hot it starts burning the carpet?
-could you PLEASE post a video/ pics of the bulb lit at both filaments?
-did you replace the front turn signals as well with leds, or leave em stock?
Thanks guys, and no, the location of my load resistor won't burn the carpet. My resistors are large enough that they slowly relaease the heat, they don't over heat like smaller resistors without heatsyncs.

Is there any other info/quesions you guys have on this? (just want to make sure its complete)
^^ totally getting a bookmark!! and great job!!

I got a question about the LED bulbs that were used. Did the bulbs contain regular 5mm LED's or were they S-Flux or Superflux LED's? Superflux LED's are the same bulbs used in the 2000+ on the 3rd taillight inside the spoiler. They have them on lsdiodes.com for reference. Some people say that these LED's are more consistent and better light quality than regular LED's.

I liked the write up, I'm gonna do it!

The ones I got were from Jamstrait.com, they are direct replacements for your stockers. As far as viewing angle and brightness, these are as good and better then sotck, becuase thats what they were disighned for. There are MANY types of LED's on the market, cheap ones are dim, and can only be seen straight on. Make sure you do your homework before you just go and buy a led!

If you guys think this is cool, join my site! I want to get a community going of poeple who like to do any custom work, so I can a nice library going.

I want to find someone who is interested in fiberglass.......
Here's a cool link i found while surfing around. This guy has spent a ton of time in this install of LED lights on a 3000GT. I don't know if any of this info could be used for a j-body but's worth a shot.
