Wet sanding without buffing

Got a question about wet sanding. Can you wet sand with a 3000 grit paper and not buff the car after wards or would it show the sanding marks in the clear.

when simple hard microfiber towels can make the paint look like @!#$ im sure 3000 grit paper would as well...
